Cool closing gifts

In this real estate careers post we cover closing gifts. For many people, the process of buying or selling a home can be an emotional experience. Closing day, in particular, can be a day when emotions run very high. After all this is the day that represents the closing of one chapter in life and the beginning of another.

When we choose a closing gift, our goal is to give something that taps into our client's emotions. We try to select a gift that's meaningful to that person or symbolic of this important life event. Presenting a thoughtful gift is one of the most gratifying things we do in real estate. It can literally bring some clients to tears and cement relationships for life.

Here are a few of our favorite gift ideas for clients.

Hand-painted wine bottles

This gift is one that most clients truly appreciate and hold onto for years and years. For sellers, a hand-painted wine bottle pays tribute to their time lived in their home. For buyers, the bottle symbolizes a new beginning or the next chapter in life.

Nest home automation products

A Nest home automation product is a great gift on two levels. First, the name "nest" is symbolic for our clients who are buying a new home and "starting a new nest". It's a great gift idea on a very practical level, too.

The self-learning thermostat helps clients save money and keep their home comfortable, while the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors protect the family. The indoor and outdoor security cameras offer peace of mind at home, too.

Nest products aren't cheap, but our clients truly appreciate them. They're great gifts for first-time home buyers and tech-savvy people.

A magazine subscription

A subscription to Madison Magazine is a great gift idea for buyers who are relocating from another part of the state or country. If they're new to the Greater Madison area, a monthly subscription will help them learn about the many cultural, art, and entertainment options in Dane County.

For entrepreneurs, business owners or clients with big career aspirations, a subscription to Success or In Business magazine is another great gift idea.

The nice thing about a magazine subscription is that it keeps on giving with a new issue every month. Plus it taps into a client's interests and passions. Whether a client loves gardening, cooking, travel, wine or art - there's a magazine out there that they'll truly appreciate.

You'll cultivate long-lasting and positive relationships when you make a habit of learning and appreciating what makes your clients tick. Selecting the right magazine subscription as a closing gift is a thoughtful way of doing just that.

What do closing gifts have to do with a career in real estate, anyway?

If you value giving each client a thoughtful and meaningful closing gift, that's a good sign that you have the right mindset for a long and prosperous career in real estate. When you invest in other people, you invest in your career, too. This is a trait we look for in each new agent who joins our team.
