Person Buys Tesla, Person Immediately Crashes Tesla

Today's the big day. You're just bought a Tesla Model S. You've waited so long. Saved up all that money. You're going to be the hit of the board room. "So forward thinking, so progressive," they'll say about you. No one will notice your gray hairs now. Just ease it out of the lot. There we go.

BOOM.

Reddit user s1lentway, who posted this most unfortunate(ly hilarious) shot to r/pics, gave a little context:

We believe this is someone who just got their car. They must have been driving it for less than a minute and lost control, crashing right into the sign missing the show room glass windows only by a few inches. Not the way you want to start out driving a brand new $70K + car that took a few months to make for you.

Now, I must admit I have never personally driven a Tesla Model S, so I can't be 100% sure of what I am about to say. I have, however, driven an automobile before. I have also been assured by someone who has driven a Tesla Model S that the controls are broadly similar, so I am 99.99999999999% certain of the following fact:

The accelerator pedal is on the right, and the brake pedal is on the left.

You know what? No. I'm going to go ahead and say I am 100% certain. Electric cars, while they may seem like spaceships, are cars. Driving them is the same. It's not hard.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that this person simply celebrated their new Tesla purchase a little bit too much before heading out to pick it up.

We've reached out to Tesla for more information on what happened here, and will update the post if we hear back.

UPDATE: We have yet to hear back from Tesla themselves, but another witness at the crash says it was not a result of too much celebratory champagne, but the result of the driver stepping on the wrong pedal. Read more here.
