Harrisburg police investigating man shot in leg earlier Friday

City police were looking into a shooting that took place earlier Friday after a man was dropped off at the Harrisburg Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Then man, who was not being identified as of Friday, reported that he had been shot in the area of 23rd and Berryhill streets earlier in the afternoon but he was not able to identify his assailant, said Cpl. Ty Meik. The man was alert and conscious when officers arrived at the hospital to question him toward 6:30 p.m.

"We can definitely confirm that he had a single gunshot wound to the leg," Meik said. "But at this point that's about as much as we have."

Police spoke with residents in the area of 23rd and Berryhill but no evidence of a shooting was uncovered as of 7 p.m. and police were still working to release suspect details.

The shooter was tentatively described as a black man standing about 5 feet, 6 inches tall wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts. He was with a black female at the time of the shooting, according to reports.

Anyone who has any additional information regarding the shooting or who can help police with the investigation was asked to call Dauphin County dispatchers at 717-558-6900 to ask to speak with an on-call city police officer or detective.
