We were on a camping trip when we came to the perfect spot. Our campsite was near a beautiful lake. A grocery store was nearby. It even had showers with hot water! Sadly, three days was the limit per stay, so we had to pack up and drove on.

The Israelites were camping on the way to the promised land. They had escaped from Egypt, were rescued by God from their enemies at the Red Sea, and had journeyed through the wilderness until they finally reached Mount Sinai. Manna came from heaven. Water was abundant in nearby pools. The location was perfect.

But after about a year, the cloud of God’s presence lifted from over the tabernacle. God said, “It’s time to break camp and move on.” There was a new task ahead of them. It would be wrong to stay. It was time to head for the promised land.

Has God been telling you that it’s time to “break camp” and get on with the challenge ahead? Perhaps you’ve grown comfortable in your life, but God has something new for you to do. His presence is lifting up from where you are, and it’s time to move on.

You think, “I don’t feel ready to go. I’m comfortable here.” We all feel this way sometimes, but God says, “Break camp. Time to move on. Don’t cling to what’s familiar.”

Time to go. God has promised to go with you. His promise lies ahead.

Dear Father, I want to go where you want me to go, do what you want me to do, no matter what it is, when it is, or where it is. Thank you for guiding me and strengthening me by your Spirit’s mighty presence. I look forward to discovering the good works you have prepared for me as you guide me day by day.

Throughout This Day: Invite the Spirit to direct you moment by moment, thanking him for giving you all the resources you need to obey him by faith.
