Twitter tributes to Mac Miller

Chance the Rapper, Ed Sheeran, and Solange Knowles have paid tribute to Mac Miller, the US rapper who has died aged 26.

Miller’s family has confirmed his death in a statement, describing him as “a bright light in this world”, but did not reveal any further details about the cause of death. Reports allege he died of an overdose.

The platinum-selling US musician, and former partner of Ariana Grande, had struggled with substance abuse in the past, most recently facing charges for driving under the influence after a hit-and-run accident.

Chance the Rapper, who previously supported Miller on tour, wrote on Twitter: “I don’t know what to say Mac Miller took me on my second tour ever. But beyond helping me launch my career he was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew. Great man. I loved him for real. I’m completely broken. God bless him... This shit hurts so bad.”

Sheeran called Miller‘s untimely death ”so heartbreaking” on Instagram, writing: ”I hung out with Mac a few times over the years and he was always such a sweetheart, always had the time of day for anyone, whoever they were. As well as being a great talent, he was a great human.”

Fellow US rapper Post Malone said Miller ”changed so many lives”, while singer Miguel – who collaborated with Miller on his 2016 album GO:OD AM – called him “insanely talented” and “never got the credit he deserved”.

J Cole wrote on Twitter: “This is a message for anybody in this game that’s going through something. If you don’t feel right, if you feel you have a substance problem, if you need a ear to vent to. If you uncomfortable talking to people around you. Please reach out to me.”

Solange Knowles wrote: Rest in your peace Mac Miller. Always exuded so much kindness and goodness. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us all.”

Miller’s body was found unresponsive at his Los Angeles home on Friday (7 September) morning. The coroner said the cause of his death was yet to be determined.
