Charity defaces price tags at Tesco stores

Campaign organisers call on the UK supermarket chain to adopt a Living Wage for all employees.

Activists have altered some price tags and slogans of the British supermarket chain Tesco in an attempt to get the company to provide a Living Wage for all its employees. “Only £8.80 per hour” and “Tesco’s finest workers deserve a Living Wage” were included on doctored tags and placed in stores. 

The non-profit organisation ShareAction partnered with Citizens UK to execute this stunt against the retailer. With more than 300,000 workers, Tesco is one of the UK’s biggest private sector employers. According to the Living Wage Foundation, the Living Wage is set at £8.80 or $14.93 an hour in London and £7.65 ($12.98) everywhere else. The national minimum wage is £6.31 ($10.71).
