Rene was born in Shelley near Ongar in 1919. She attended Ongar Council School, then Loughton Girls High School. She had various clerical jobs, including through the Second World War. This interview captures some of her memories of Ongar. The interview was conducted by Felicitie Barnes on 10 October 1998 as part of the Ongar Millennium Project.
