Walking Dead on Netflix
“The Walking Dead” Season 6, which introduces Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), is one of several great titles headed to Netflix in September 2016. AMC

It’s time to refresh your Netflix queue! September will bring plenty of new additions to the streaming service. Though several titles will be leaving, there will be over 90 new TV shows and movies added. You definitely don’t have room for 90 new programs in your queue, though. To narrow down what you should add, we’ve selected some of the best titles from the list.

“Jaws” — Sept. 1

Celebrate the end of summer with this 1975 classic. It’s a typical summer in a New England beach town until a great white shark starts attacking swimmers. Steven Spielberg’s breakthrough film will almost make you glad that those summer beach days are coming to an end.

“Practical Magic” — Sept. 1

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock play two very different sisters who are witches in this 1998 romantic comedy. Unfortunately, their family is cursed so every man they fall in love with tragically dies. Together, they fight to break the curse.

“Top Gun” — Sept. 1

Tom Cruise feels the need, the need for speed in this drama. Maverick (Cruise) heads to the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School, but the training isn’t easy. First, he has to get over his arrogance. The 1986 film also features a romantic storyline when Maverick tries to win over his flight instructor, Charlotte (Kelly McGillis).

“Galavant” Seasons 1 and 2 — Sept. 7

ABC canceled this gem earlier this year, but Netflix subscribers can see what they missed. The musical comedy follows a knight called Galavant (Joshua Sasse) who is trying to rescue Madalena (Mallory Jansen), the woman he is in love with. The show satirizes typical Disney princess stories with help from composer Alan Menken, who wrote music for “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast” and several other Disney films.

“Sweeney Todd” — Sept. 1

If you prefer your musicals to be a bit weirder, this Tim Burton-directed film might be for you. Johnny Depp plays the demon barber of Fleet Street, and Helena Bonham Carter stars as Mrs. Lovett, the baker who adds very special ingredients to meat pies.

“Supergirl” Season 1 — Sept. 10

Kara (Melissa Benoist) has always known she was an alien, but she finally realizes she is a hero in the first season of the DC Comics drama. Those planning to watch Season 2 will definitely want to see the Season 1 finale cliffhanger.

“Walking Dead” Season 6 — Sept. 15

It’s the TV show everyone talks about, so you should probably binge this ASAP if you want to remain unspoiled. In Season 6, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and other survivors are trying to make Alexandria a long-term community, but not everything goes according to play. Fan favorite comic book character Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) finally makes his debut, and he brings Lucille with him.

“Marvel’s Luke Cage” Season 1 — Sept. 30

Marvel’s latest collaboration with Netflix focuses on Luke Cage (Mike Colter), who was introduced in “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.” Luke goes to Harlem and decides to start protecting his city. He’s bulletproof, so he doesn’t have to worry about getting hurt. However, the other residents of Harlem aren’t as unbreakable.

“The Imitation Game” — Sept. 28

If you prefer your movies to be on the serious side, check out this Academy Award winner. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Alan Turing, a cryptanalyst in World War II. He decoded German intelligence and helped end the war, but he wasn’t treated as a hero. Life as a gay man in the ‘40s and ‘50s wasn’t easy.
