A former Chillicothe, Mo., police officer who faces rape and sodomy charges now faces new allegations of tampering with prosecution.
Brent Schade, 40, was charged last Tuesday with a felony of tampering with a victim/witness in felony prosecution while being incarcerated on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy. The original charges stem from an alleged sexual assault in March at his home.
Mr. Schade was subsequently arrested and charged. He was placed inside the Daviess/DeKalb Regional Jail, waiting future court dates.
As investigation continued into the rape investigation, Livingston County deputies interviewed a witness who gave a sworn statement. Roughly five days later, deputies learned of a recorded interview during a visit with a witness at the regional jail that detailed Mr. Schade telling the witness to change his previous statement given to investigators.
“All of the things Schade told (the witness) to say in a new statement are totally opposite of what (the witness) told me in his initial interview and subsequent statement,” the investigator noted in case files.
Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox said that the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office jointly investigated the additional allegations, along with Daviess/DeKalb Regional Jail staff.
The defendant was granted a change-of-venue motion and is scheduled for a jury trial on the rape charges in October. Mr. Schade remained in custody Monday.
