Reward offered in slaying of 69-year-old Vietnam veteran

A reward is now being offered for information in the July death of a Vietnam veteran found slain in his Tuscaloosa home.

Lester Williams, 69, was discovered dead in his bed early that July 18 morning. He lived in the 1600 block of TY Rogers Jr. Avenue.

Tuscaloosa police and the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit responded about 2:50 a.m. that Tuesday to Williams' home after they received a call about a possible murder there.

The anonymous caller reported hearing a disturbance. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the front door had been kicked in and Williams dead in his bed. They have not publicly said how he was killed.

Investigators have canvassed the area multiple times, but to no avail.

On Tuesday, Gov. Kay Ivey issued a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible for Williams' death.
