Germany have made it to the World Cup semi-finals three straight times, and they are the betting favorites to do so again facing France.

Still, the German giants have looked less than impressive in their last three matches. France got off to a great start in the World Cup, but they have also not looked great in the last couple of matches.

France and Germany dispatched the two squads from Africa in their round-of-16 matches, with Germany beating Algeria 2-1 in extra time and France beating Nigeria 2-0.

Sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark have odds on this quarterfinals match posted at 3-2 for favored Germany, with France at 2-1 and a draw line of 5-2.

Since 1996, France have won four of their last six matches against Germany.

These squads have not been in top form on the attack in the last couple of matches. Still, France beat Nigeria in the round of 16, and Germany have to feel a little lucky, having done the same against Algeria.

The Germans have a good defense, but keeper Manuel Neuer had to bail out the defense on several occasions in the Algeria match by coming out of the box.

Mats Hummels, who missed the Algeria match due to illness, should be available and will have to play well against the French attack.

Karim Benzema, who leads the French with three goals, looked out of sync in the Nigeria match. Manager Didier Deschamps may learn from his mistake and start Antoine Griezmann rather than Olivier Giroud up front.

The French do not have the strength in the middle of the pitch like the Germans do, but they have the players to press forward, which they will do in this match.

Thomas Muller and company were thwarted, for the most part, in the Algeria match, and they will need more help from the midfield. They will get it in this match, and the defense will play a much better match than their last one.

However, if the Germans play like they did in their last match, they will be in trouble.

Germany are the favorites, but the French may be playing better and have more confidence. In a clash of two of Europe’s top soccer nations, the Germans have more resolve to keep their string of World Cup semi-final appearances intact and will win.

Germany vs. France prediction: 2-1 Germany
