Even more than speed, muscle cars are about power.

Going fast is one thing, but there are lots of ways to go fast. A muscle car is well and truly about big power. The speed produced is almost secondary to the roaring, tire-melting engines at hand.

Which is why the Hellcat is so great. The car could certainly be just as fast with less weight and less power, but what would be the fun in that? Why not have 707 hp?

But it has me wondering — has there ever been a more powerful muscle car? Something with even more power underfoot?

It's a bit of a hard question, since old muscle cars tended to overinflate their actual power figures, but when you can get 268hp in a Camry these days, the Hellcat might seem less impressive than something like a 427 Cammer Fairlane. I don't know, it's up to you to figure out what is the most powerful muscle car ever made.
