Parks Canada invites visitors to experience the wonders of wintertime at Riding Mountain National Park

News release

Enjoy a variety of activities and make the most of our great Canadian winters with family and friends

December 18, 2019               Riding Mountain National Park            Parks Canada Agency

Parks Canada’s destinations form important cornerstones for Canada’s tourism industry, and the Agency is committed to providing visitors with high-quality and meaningful experiences and to support tourism in communities across the country. Riding Mountain National Park is a gateway to nature and represents the very best that Canada has to offer Canadians.

Winter is the perfect time to experience the outdoors and learn more about our environment. Parks Canada is excited to offer a variety of winter activities, including winter accommodations, at Riding Mountain National Park for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing on groomed trails, Fat Bike winter biking, snowshoeing, skating, ice fishing and tobogganing.

Overnight guests of the park can also enjoy cozy accommodations in one of five Parks Canada winterized oTENTiks in the Wasagaming Campground. OTENTiks are a rustic, yet comfortable getaway. Stay warm with the wood stove and electrical heat. Don't worry about charging your phone, there are electrical and USB outlets available inside. Cook your food over the fire, the BBQ, or in the insulated cook shack. Strap on your skis or snowshoes right from the deck of your oTENTik and hit the nearby trails.

New this winter, visitors can now also reserve overnight stays in winterized oTENTiks in the Moon Lake campground. Two new units are equipped with a woodstove and a nearby enclosed cook shack to prepare and eat food. The Moon Lake Trail is perfect for snowshoeing or, for those more adventurous, visitors can pack their own trail through the wilderness!

Join a Parks Canada interpreter over the Christmas holidays on one of our guided experiences! Snowshoe under the starry skies, get in on the secrets behind what makes Species at Risk so special, or enjoy a walk through the forest and learn about how trees communicate. There are many other fun programs for the whole family to enjoy!

Clear Lake Country and Parks Canada are hosting the annual Winter Adventure Weekend from February 7-9, 2020. More details to come, but plan on skiing, snowshoeing, or fat biking through the park on one of our winter trails during this fun packed weekend of winter adventures. Keep an eye on our events page for information: https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/mb/riding/activ/calendrier-even-calendar .
