News in brief.

A former captain with the Oregon State Police will serve three days in jail and a year of probation after pleading guilty Thursday, June 19, to a single count of official misconduct.

The guilty plea in Linn County Circuit Court stems from accusations that he used a department-issued fuel card to fuel a personal vehicle.

Jeff Randall Lanz resigned from the state police on Wednesday, ending a 15 year career. Lanz, 39, had been the head of the Office of Professional Standards in Salem. He was placed on leave from his duties April 29 while the allegations were investigated. Findings were forwarded and reviewed by Linn County Senior Deputy District Attorney George Eder.

Lanz was suspected of using a department fuel card to fuel a personal vehicle on six instances between Oct. 8, 2013, and April 14 of this year.

Before his plea and sentencing, Lanz had already agreed to reimburse state police $485.19 for the fuel, OSP spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said. That reimbursement took place Wednesday.
