The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Traditional Jass Band, featured in the two-episode introduction of "NCIS: New Orleans" earlier this year, on Monday (June 9) performed a Crescent City-style rendition of the "Game of Thrones" theme at a New York City gig. The wildly popular HBO fantasy drama, which added "Treme" star Michiel Huisman to its cast this season, reaches its season-four finale in an extended episode at 8 p.m. Sunday (June 15).

The Donkeys' tailgate ramble, recorded in B.B. King's club in Times Square and currently ablaze on YouTube, came during a tour that will take the band to Europe later this month and on into July.

Note Sam Friend's catchy banjo intro. The impish trombone solo by Jon "ToeJam" Ramm at the 1:00 mark. The Preservation Hall-style horn-line interplay between Ramm, reed man Joe Goldberg and trumpeter James Williams at 1:47. The dance-floor igniting stop-time sequence at 1:57. And Friend's concluding banjo coda, which returned the party from Frenchmen Street to Westeros or wherever.

Williams concludes the video by revealing that the performance was inspired by a band watch-party of the penultimate episode of the season, "The Watchers on the Wall," which aired Sunday (June 8).

It's 2:20 or so of genius that says "Mardi Gras is coming."
