Man shot several times on Trenton's Centre Street pronounced dead at hospital

TRENTON -- A man shot several times Monday night on Centre Street was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital, police confirmed.

Police ruled it a homicide, Lt. Stephen Varn said, making it the city's 16th murder of 2014 and third of June. The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is leading the investigation, and there are no suspects in custody, Varn said.

Trenton Police received a call of a shooting in progress at 9:59 p.m. on the 300 block of Centre Street, Varn said. The unidentified male victim was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he was pronounced dead.

Police roped off the scene, while investigators, Police Director Ralph Rivera included, searched for shell casings scattered across Centre Street in front of Los Primos Supermarket.
