Even an experienced pet sitter like Daphne Templeton can be fooled by animal behavior: how can an adorably tiny fuzz ball named Tinkleston be capable of sudden flying leaps with cat claws bared? But human behavior remains even more mysterious, especially when Tinkleston s owner is murdered on the night of a gala fundraiser for Fur-ever Friends Pet Rescue.
Accompanied by her unflappable basset hound, Socrates, Daphne plans to take charge of Tinks the Terror and leave the crime-solving to handsome detective Jonathan Black. But while luring the prickly Persian out of hiding, she uncovers clues that might take suspicion off her own mother. Maeve Templeton already has a reputation as a killer in real estate. How far would she go to bag Sylvan Creek s most coveted property, the Flynt Mansion?
To expose the truth, Daphne finds herself donning a deranged clown costume on an autumnal adventure that might just be crazy enough to work if it doesn t get her killed.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Daphne Templeton arrives at Flynt Mansion just a little late to set up for the Fur-ever Friends Pet Rescue fundraiser but she and Socrates look darn good in their costumes. Wait, why isn’t anyone else wearing costumes? Daphne is going to kill her sister, Piper, okay not actually kill her but scream at her maybe.

Some screaming does occur and there is a dead body, but it is not Piper. It is Lillian Flynt, owner of the mansion where the fundraiser is taking place. It is also a property their mother, Maeve, is trying to sell and she has a client willing the pay the huge asking price. Will the owner’s death halt the sale? Who killed the Lillian Flynt? The only witness appears to be a Persian cat named Tinkleston, and he is the crankiest cat Daphne has ever met. He definitely is not going to help Detective Jonathan Black find a killer. Heck! the detective even puts Maeve on the list of suspects. Daphne tries to stay out of the investigation but while trying to corral the kitty she uncovers an important clue and ends up in another costume to try to catch the mansion murderer.

Daphne is an excellent protagonist. She is a strong willed woman and not shy about getting her point across with the good detective. Her relationship with her mother is another story but Daphne is getting stronger at getting her point across with her too. Maeve is a pushy woman, that is what makes her a successful realtor, but she does get on both her daughter’s nerves. I get a kick of of Daphne’s BFF and her homages to actresses in classic films too.

Ms. Blake has written a twisty mystery with surprising developments. A family connection turns the case in a whole new direction. The deceased’s will provides more questions than answers and even included Daphne. Another surprise early in the story is the potential buyer of Flynt Mansion. Plenty of action to keep us readers entertained.

The author has given readers a first class story. Her descriptive details bring it to life. The characters are well fleshed out. The pace of the story builds throughout to an exciting ending. I found everything I want to find in a cozy mystery within the pages of this book. I am really excited Pawprints & Predicaments coming in February 2018.

Daphne Templeton knows she's in for a bad night when she shows up to the annual gala fundraiser for Fur-Ever Friends Pet Rescue dressed as a witch....only to discover nobody else is dressed in Halloween costumes. The Flynt Mansion is elegantly decorated with twinkle lights, black chandeliers and jack o'lanterns. Everything is perfect for a great fundraiser to benefit charity....until Lillian Flynt's body is discovered. The eccentric woman has been electrocuted in an upstairs bathroom. The investigation into Lillian's death soon becomes a homicide investigation. Who killed the eccentric, wealthy old woman? The investigation turns up everything from old family secrets to a questionable local cat rescue. Daphne realizes she needs to discover the identity of the killer quickly....because someone is stalking her!

I really enjoy this series! Dial Meow for Murder is the second book in the Lucky Paws Petsitting series. Daphne is a bit of an air-head about some things (her cell phone never works, she loses things, and she's never on time for anything....), but when it comes to amateur sleuthing, she's tops! She's a fun, feisty and intelligent main character. Former Navy Seal turned local detective Jonathan Black really wishes that Daphne would stop discovering dead bodies and meddling with investigations. Daphne's mother and sister also disapprove of her sleuthing. But Daphne is bound and determined to jump right into danger to solve a mystery!

I like the pet sitter/baker theme of this series. Recipes for the Halloween pet treats mentioned in the story are included at the back of the book. The pet sitter theme doesn't overpower the mystery portion of the plot, but adds to it. Daphne's dog, Socrates, is a great side character! Not to mention Jonathan's one-eared chihuahua and lab dog, too! The mystery moved along at a nice pace, with plenty of twists, turns and surprises. The Halloween theme is nicely done as well. This book is definitely a fun, enjoyable autumn read! I loved the atmosphere of the dark, creepy, possibly haunted old Flynt Mansion. :)

Daphne Templeton was pressed into helping out at the Fur-ever Friends Pet Rescue gala at the Flynt mansion by the formidable Miss Flint herself. When Daphne arrives at the scene of the party she spies chaos: her always put-together sister is drenched, the town librarian and historian (a married couple) are arguing, Miss Flynt is nowhere to be seen and her cat is missing. To make matters worse, Daphne's mother is in the house waiting for a client who wants to buy the Flynt mansion! While searching for Tinkleston the purebred Persian, Daphne discovers the whereabouts of Miss Flynt, who is obviously deceased. Daphne hopes it was accidental but hunky homicide detective Jonathan thinks otherwise. Daphne fears her mother will be the chief suspect but knows her mother would never literally kill someone just for their house. She's determined to save her mother and solve the mystery.

This story had potential but it lost me primarily with the stereotypical portrayal of librarians and archivist/historians. I was outraged at how horrible and stuffy they both were. Public libraries are for everyone and the computers are not only for patrons in good standing. Also, if Daphne had books that overdue, she would have been billed for them ages ago or her mother would have been sent the bill. While I didn't want either Martha or Asa to be a murderer, I DID want him to murder Daphne for her attitude towards history. I would love to know the history of the town and have taken an active interest in the history of my hometown. It doesn't have to be so dry but Daphne just automatically turned her nose up at history, not caring about the town at all only the dirty secrets she might uncover.

Daphne is TSTL. She's a sometimes pet-sitter mooching off her sister, dating a surfer dude and living in ignorance of her true calling. Lillian Flynt tries to tell her. Then Daphne becomes an incorrigible snoop for no good reason. The evidence she uncovers in the church was already common knowledge! She gossiped with Moxie about it in the beginning of the book so surely the police would have been aware of that information. She missed the one thing that was so important to her just to snoop. Why not trust Jonathan and the police to do their jobs? Daphne's zen attitude towards the person trying to kill her also annoyed me. Dogs act on instinct so if Socrates saw someone harming Daphne, he would feel motivated to act. Dogs don't plan. If Socrates happened to be in the right place at the right time, that's different. I did like her pure heart and the solution she came up with to her inheritance problem.

The suspects include Maeve Templeton, Daphne's mother who is as ditzy as her daughter but has killer instincts when it comes to real estate. She's shallow, vain and doesn't seem to care so much about her daughters. There's also Tamara Fox, a socialite intending to take over from Lillian Flynt as queen of philanthropy. She is not a nice woman-typical Type A mean girl. She may even be having an affair with Pastor Pete Kishbaugh, another suspect. Pastor Pete doesn't have much personality. He's weak and can't stand up to the tornado that is Tamara. There's also Bea Baumgartner, a crazy cat lady who operates a "cat shelter" on the outskirts of town. She comes across as a crazy cat lady not merely eccentric and is definitely a hoarder. She has good reasons to hate Miss Flynt but would she kill? The town historian knows all the secrets of everyone in town. Would he kill someone for trying to shut down his plan to share those secrets in a new book? More likely someone would kill him for a more unpleasant, grumpy historian I have never met. Finally, there's an outside chance Jonathan's ex-wife Elyce Hunter-Black killed Miss Flynt in order to buy the mansion. Jonathan says Elyce usually gets what she wants. None of these people are very pleasant.

Other quirky locals include Daphne's uptight sister Piper. If I had a sister like Daphne, I would probably act like Piper too. Piper is reserved but I think she's a good person. Moxie, Daphne's best friend, is definitely unique. Obsessed with the 1950s and 60s, she has her own individual style that makes her stand out. I found her homage phase annoying but liked her because she's bubbly, friendly and knowledgeable about things that interest her. Jonathan, the homicide detective, is a closed book at times. He deserves not to spill his secrets. He and Daphne have a lot of chemistry but I don't get what he sees in her, if anything other than friendship. Finally, there's the dogs: Socrates is Daphne's zen Basset Hound. He is cute but Daphne putting thoughts in his head was kind of annoying. I especially loved Artie, the awkward Chihuahua. He is so adorable and loving. I like how he formed a special bond with the normally tightly controlled Jonathan. It was sweet.

The book contains recipes for pet treats. I will be copying some down in case I am ever owned by another furkid but I will not be reading more of this series.

A fast, stimulating and funny read from the Lucky Paws Pet Sitters series. Daphne Templeton still has her Volkswagen, her cell phone doesn't always work and she is moving into the cottage. This book brought smile and laughter throughout as Daphne manage to get herself in trouble by acting fast.
At a fundraiser, a career volunteer is murdered and Daphne takes procession of her wild destructive cat, Tinkleston, a pedigree black cat. Maeve Templeton has a motive in the killing and Daphne looks into portions of the investigation to clear her name. Daphne is surprised to find herself named in the will. She must be careful before she loses her life. I highly recommend this book and series.Homemade Pet recipes are included.

I read Dial Meow for Murder over the long weekend and I loved it. Bethany Blake has a strong second in series with Dial Meow for Murder. I really like that the main character Daphne is a free uncomplicated spirit with a knack for working with animals and a soft spot for solving the murders of the dead bodies she finds. She is purposeful in her investigations and clumsy, she is overly carrying and wears her heart on her sleeve. She is kind and curious to a fault and all of this makes for a great main character. I loved the mystery and how Daphney interpreted all the clues for not only the murder mystery but the mystery of what to do with her life as well.
This one is well written, thoughtful and a cozy great read. This one is out September 26th!

It's getting close to Halloween and the Fur-Ever Friends Pet Rescue gala event is underway. Daph Templeton is helping her sister and friends put the finishing touches on the evening. When she goes looking for the woman usually in charge of the event inside her mansion, she finds that her mother, Maeve, is also putting the final touches on selling the mansion. In trying to chase down the owner's elusive cat, Tinkleston, Daph finds the body of his owner, Lillian Flynt, in the bathtub.

Evidence of course points to Maeve since she was with the deceased recently and trying to sell the house for her so Daph is not going to leave this case alone until she clears her mother's name. To add even more mayhem to the situation, her detective friend Jonathan Black's ex-wife is in town and is the person who wants to buy the mansion. It's tense sailing for Daph and Jonathan who seem to be growing a tad closer but when they're together it seems that Elyse is also there.

Daph's good friend Dylan is also needing to speak to her in private so she's a little on edge about that too. Since she's doing a lot of investigating lately, Daph will need to watch her back especially when she stumbles onto a second murder victim!

This was another fun and exciting mystery in this series. There were tons of suspects and reasons so I really couldn't decide who the killer was. I picked up on a clue the author left and thought maybe it was that but I wasn't sure of why. As always I just enjoyed the excitement and humor that went along with the story.

Moxie is still my favorite secondary character, she's such a hoot and Artie remains my favorite dog character but slow-moving Socrates actually plays a little bit bigger of a role in this book. I was glad for that because I have a special soft spot for basset hounds. Although Socrates wouldn't like me very much because I would want to hug on him a lot!

Dial Meow for Murder, the second book in Bethany Blake’s Lucky Paws Petsitting Mysteries, is a cute cozy mystery that fits nicely into the Halloween season.

Daphne Templeton and her sister Piper are getting set for a Fur-Ever Friends Pet Rescue fundraiser at the Flynt Mansion, a property that her realtor-mother, Maeve, has listed for sale. Unfortunately, the event – and potential sale – are marred by the death of the mansion’s owner, Lillian Flynt. Left behind is Lillian’s cantankerous cat, Tinkleston, who Daphne takes in. When Maeve becomes a suspect in the murder, Daphne must marshal all of her resources to clear her name and find a killer.

This is a fun and light-hearted mystery. Daphne is an intrepid sleuth, albeit one who is a bit too fond of gossip. Her best friend, Moxie, is a colorful character with a wardrobe to match. And both Tinkleston and Daphne’s dog Socrates add their own brand of charm. The book is filled with twists and turns, revealing family secrets, mean girl antics, and even a “crazy cat lady” who runs a cat shelter that is definitely not up to code. There are even recipes for treats for your canine companions!

All told, Dial Meow for Murder is an entertaining read. Just perfect for Halloween!

Book two is the third book in this series that I've read. After winning one in a giveaway, I decided to go back and start at the beginning of the series.

These are light mysteries that are perfect for my secondary book that I only read a few pages from each day. The plots are just complicated enough that the culprit isn't immediately apparent, even if you are able to figure it out by the book's end. I continue to enjoy the inclusion of the animals in these books, who each have their own distinct personalities.

My only complaint continues to be how ditzy Daphne is sometimes portrayed. After a while it's just ridiculous that a grown woman would be so bumbling or irresponsible. For example, in this day and age, how many people realistically don't have a working cell phone with them the majority of the time? At times, the foolishness with which Daphne is written comes across as more annoying than endearing.

Barring that, I otherwise am enjoying getting to know more about this town and its inhabitants -- both human and animal -- and the mysteries are entertaining enough to keep me coming back for the next installment.

This is a wonderful series for pet lovers, as well as cozy mystery lovers. When Daphne shows up at a Hallowe'en fundraiser for Fur-ever friends, she should have known it was going to be a tough night. She was the only person in costume having lost her invitation. When Lillian Flynt's body is found electrocuted in the upstairs bathroom, the party is off and Maeve Templeton, Daphne's mother is the prime suspect. Of course Daphne gets involved in trying to solve the crime as well as getting the opportunity to spend time with Detective Jonathan Black.

Once again the pets are front and centre. Lillian's pedigreed cat Tinkleston is left to Daphne in her will and it takes a while to warm up to each other, along with several bandages to cover Daphne's scratches. The dogs get to march in a parade, Jonathan's ex-wife moves to town and Daphne moves into the cottage on her sister's property. I liked Daphne a lot better in this book. She did not seem as scattered or clueless. She still is not the most organized but that makes her more realistic to me. This is a fun story with some different characters that had me moving through the story quite quickly. Another great cozy mystery in this series.

Daphne Templeton is back! Another murder has occurred in the small town of Sylvan Creek and Daphne is determined to unmask another killer with the help of her Basset Hound, Socrates, despite objections from the handsome detective, Jonathan Black.

This was a good, fast-paced read and you are quickly immersed in the small-town of Sylvan Creek and all of the characters in it. A new cat, Tinkleston, disrupts the Templeton household (poor Socrates) and a new face in town could possibly threaten the (dare I say) romance between Detective Black and Daphne.

This one kept me guessing until the end and I was shocked by the reveal and how many people knew about the murder, but kept it to themselves, for various reasons that are also revealed later. I can't wait till book #3 is out!

**I voluntarily read this ARC**

I really enjoyed the mystery, but there was too much relationship drama for me to fully enjoy the book. There were some great twists throughout the book, and the reveal surprised me. Daphne also surprised me with her decisions at the end. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Daphne and Socrates.

After enjoying "Death by Chocolate Lab" so much I knew I had to request this installment the minute I saw it offered on Netgalley. In "Dial Meow for Murder," the main character, Daphne, once again finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time when she finds the body of a wealthy philanthropist during a Halloween gala at the woman's home. Despite the objections from Jonathan Black, the local detective, Daphne continues to look into the murder and gets into all kinds of predicaments along the way.

I felt this second installment was just as strong as the initial one. I enjoy the interaction between Daphne and her family, as well as her best friend. There is still some sexual tension going on between Daphne and Jonathan, but if the author is planning on hooking them up eventually, she is taking her time which makes me very happy as I am not a fan of insta-love. In addition, Jonathan's ex has shown up in town and it's unclear if there is a reconciliation in the future between the two.

What I like best about this series is the connection with the pets. The entire town seems quite pet-centric and since it takes place in October, there are lots of pet-centered activities throughout. In addition, we get to see more of Daphne's dog Socrates than in the first book. This book does introduce some new cat characters, as probably deduced from the title, named Tinkleston and Himmelfarb. I mainly mention them because I would love to ask Blake how she came up with these names!

"Dial Meow for Murder" is a wonderful cozy mystery and is a must read for anyone who enjoys the genre and likes animals to boot. The mystery takes a few twists and turns along the way and because Daphne is a far-from-perfect character, her day to day actions are a lot of fun to read about. This installment has left me anxiously awaiting book #3.

I received this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

What worked: Oh where to begin? Like a pillowcase full of trick-or-treat candy—so much goodness is packed into this book. Despite her shortcomings (which I will mention below) Daphne is a loveable protagonist. Her life revolves around dogs, cats, books and yummy pastries. Funny--mine does too!

I’m also very thankful that there aren’t a bazillion characters to keep track of, which is a rare treat in the cozy mystery genre. I especially loved the atmospheric Halloweenie scenes that immersed me into the season. The hilarious dog costume parade was oodles of fun, but I think my favorite part of the book was when Daphne and her basset hound, Socrates were chased through the woods after a creepy run-in with a chainsaw-brandishing madwoman!

What didn’t work: My one and only problem with Daphne is that she can be grossly inconsiderate of others. I’m not a fan of people who are habitually late, which is one of her many bad habits. I just about had it when she rudely ran off in the middle of a date—not once but twice—with her sort-of boyfriend. Throughout the entire book he's been trying desperately to give her some big news, but she keeps blowing him off. UGH!

Overall verdict: This is the perfect Halloween read for cozy mystery lovers. Two paws up from CeeCee!

This book is best pared with: Pumpkin cider donuts and a snoring dog.

Daphne ends up with a nasty cat when Tinkleston’s owner is murdered on the night of a gala fundraiser for Fur-ever Friends Pet Rescue. Socrates is not very happy with their new roommate and even Daphne is not sure about it as that cat don't seem to like her much but she feels sorry for it.

Daphne is determined to find out what happened to Tinkleston's owner especially when it looks like her mother could be a suspect. This means bumping heads with Detective Jonathan Black who doesn't enjoy her snooping around in his crime scenes, especially when she always seems to muck something up like accidently take something that could be a clue.

Jonathan's ex is in town and thinking about buying a home and staying a while and even though Daphne is not dating Jonathan a part of her is not thrilled with this news. Meanwhile, the man that Daphne has been seeing wants to talk to her about something and it has her worried.

Daphne is real good and accidently finding things even a killer! I think Daphne is growing on me a bit more from the first book even though she really needs to start thinking before she messes with things she shouldn't even if it doesn't seem like a clue. That drove me crazy in the first book but she wasn't as bad this go around. I am a fan of Detective Black so I hope the romance moves towards Daphne and him, but I guess time will tell. I love some of the side characters like her sister, mom and best friend.

Even though I am not a cat person I really enjoyed Tinkleston and he made me laugh a few times. Poor Socrates though as he has to put up with that little cat. I miss Daphne having Artie even though we do get him a little in this one as Detective Black owns him now but he about stole the show in the last book so I was bummed when she gave him to Black.

I really enjoyed this one and it has a good solid mystery and I didn't figure it out so that is always a bonus for me. :) Can't wait to get to Pawprints and Predicaments!

Daphne Templeton works as a pet sitter in a quiet little town in Pennsylvania; she helps out at a ‘Fur-ever Friends Pet Rescue’ gala to raise money for dog and cat care, on the biggest estate in town, Flynt Mansions, which belongs to Lillian Flynt, a spinster who is big on charity. To her surprise, she finds her estate agent mother in the mansion who’s just about to show it to a possible buyer – and to her horror, she finds Miss Flynt dead in her bathtub, electrocuted by a CD player!

Detective Jonathan Black and his colleagues arrive at the crime scene; and here we learn that Daphne already knows the charming cop, because she’s found a body before, and help solve the crime! And not only that: Jonathan’s ex-wife Elyse is the potential buyer of Flynt Mansions… Other suspects besides her are Bea Baumgartner, who manages a run-down cat shelter and turns out to be Miss Flynt’s sister, Pastor Pete, who’s been embezzling money from the church funds, Asa Whitaker from the Historical Society who seems to have found out something about the past of the Flynt family, and a strange young woman who appears to be stalking Daphne.

Things become even more complicated when Daphne learns that she’s inherited a portrait from Miss Flynt that turns out to be worth a fortune – what is she supposed to do with it? And, even more important, who killed Lillian Flynt? Then a second murder occurs; and on Halloween night, Daphne sets out to find the murderer…

A very clever and intricate story keeps us on the edge of our seats with a lot of suspense, but also a good deal of humour; dogs and cats are to be found everywhere and play their part in the plot. And at the end of the book we can find the recipes for dog and cat treats that are mentioned in the novel. A treat for all fans of cosy mysteries involving pets!

Princess Fuzzypants here:
We cats are quite sensitive so it is no wonder Tinks was upset when his human was found murdered in a bathtub in their mansion on the night of a big pet fundraisers on the grounds of the estate. Her human, MIss Flynt, was not only the doyenne of charitable good deeds, she was also the keeper of many secrets that she strove to keep hidden.
So, as Daphne, Tinks' new human, tries to figure out who would electrocute Miss Flynt, while trying to help Tinks adjust to his new and scary world, many of those well hidden secrets start coming to light. It is intriguing but it also means there were lots of humans who may have wished his human ill. One of them killed her but whom?
Daphne is a disorganized heroine. She is not one of those who can solve crimes with her hands tied behind her back with her cunning intellect. She sort of stumbles along, scaring those care about her as she manages to get tied up in deadly doings. Her liabilities make her human and quite endearing. So does her love of animals. She is an animal whisperer who is loved by her doggy cohort and all the other pets around town. Socrates is not above rolling his eyes at her. But he does understand her and so does her newest charge, Tinks.
This has many of the cozy traits but it is also just a tad different. It is a nice addition to the series we love already.
I give it five purrs and two paws up.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!

This is book two in the series, but like with most cozy mysteries, it doesn't take long to immerse yourself in the small town world. Daphne blazes through, sprouting out introductions and situations with ease. Obviously with a title like that we're going to see pets, but I was surprised to see the Petsitting barely featured. Mainly we saw Socrates and Tinkleston (whom I loved BTW, who doesn't love a grumpy cat?)

I felt like the actual writing needed work; I just felt like sometimes the grammar was off or a sentence could be improved. It didn't fully impact the story, but at times I was thrown out and had to read again to grasp full meaning.

The mystery was a fun, full one. You were never REALLY sure who had committed what, and I was satisfied by the final reveal. I'm also intrigued by the romance; where will it go in the future?

All in all this was a good but not great mystery for me. Because the subject matter is pets and mystery I will definitely read more from this author. Three stars for this book alone though.

I had read book one some time ago and enjoyed it, I am not sure why I waited so long for book two. This is such a fun book, its light and humorous with a touch of mystery and of course, murder.

Daphne Templeton is a free-spirited pet sitter, armed only with a Ph.D. in Philosophy and a stubborn Basset Hound, who has become an amateur sleuth.

In this installment of the series, an old and wealthy woman is found dead during a Halloween Fundraiser in her old "haunted" mansion. With more questions than answers as well as a ton of suspects and reasons for her death, Daphne and her trusty side kick, Socrates, have a lot of investigating to do.

This series is a fun way to escape the day or intrigue those who love a good "who dunnit" series.

I have this book in both digital and audio versions. The narrator, Elise Arsenault, does an amazing job.

I just downloaded book 3, Pawprints & Predicaments, and I am looking forward to continuing on with the series.

It's Halloween in Sylvan Creek, Pennsylvania - and the ghosts are real! Dial Meow for Murder, the second book in the Lucky Paws Petsitting Mystery Series by author Bethany Blake is a funny, riveting and suspenseful cozy mystery. This well-crafted story takes us back into the history of Sylvan Creek....and hidden secrets which may have some bearing on the cause of the recent murder of "professional volunteer" Lillian Flynt. Daphne's philosophical take on life, and her unwavering love of all animals as well as her (and basset hound Socrates') nose for solving crimes, make Dial Meow for Murder a simply delightful book, and a true pleasure to read. Once again, yummy dog treat recipes are included! A+++

Does an inherited cat or a philosopher dog have the answer to the latest murder case in Sylvan Creek? Well, I'm not going to tell you as this book is plain fun to read and I never tire of the main character, Daphne Templeton.

Daphne is a Philosopher herself. Holding a doctorate degree. However, she lives in a cottage on her sister's property and cares for animals as her living. Daphne has the soul of a philosopher but the cunning of a detective. To the great dismay of her family, friends, and the local police force.

The town's main good works volunteer is found, by Daphne, dead in her home she was selling, or was she? The season is Halloween and the ghouls and goblins are about. Who could want to kill this benefactress?

There are many suspects in this small town, but, Daphne is determined her Mother won't be one of them.

This novel is fully entertaining and I fly through the pages. I hope there will be many more installments coming.

Quite Enjoyable!

Second book in an extremely enjoyable cozy mystery. I love the main character Daphne. She is so guileless, such a breath of fresh air. The fact that she has a PhD in philosophy means she is deep & quite bright. She doesn’t care about money or material things. I think that’s what Detective Jonathan Black finds interesting in her. Her love for animals shines brightly. While she is quite klutzy & a magnet for trouble, she, with the help of her trusty sidekick Socrates, always seem to save herself. Lots of twists & turns before the unlikely killer is unmasked with both suspense & humor along the way.

This is such a fun cozy mystery. Daphne Templeton is a strong, lovable character, and her sidekick Socrates is just adorable.
Halloween is fast approaching in Sylvan Lake, and when Daphne once again discovers a dead body, everyone tells her not to get involved.
Naturally, Daphne can't help but ask questions and do some digging, especially when her mother is a suspect!

This book is sure to get the attraction of all cozy mystery lovers, after all, who can resist the cast of colorful characters.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

Can't really put my finger on it but I just didn't love this book. I skimmed half of it honestly :/ it just didn't draw me in and I didn't care for the characters much and didn't care what happened to them. Partly may have been a mood thing, partly because I hate love triangles, even potential ones and if I knew that, I wouldn't have bothered. I don't seem to be a big pet person in my books either (in real life I have 6)

Daphne heads up to the house where they are having the Halloween Fundraiser with her dog. She helps her sister by going after the cat but ends up finding the owner of the house dead in the bathtub. Her friend takes the cat over to a place but when Daphne goes to get the cat finds the place in a terrible shape and so ends up taking the cat home. This time she tries and stay out of the investigation but ends up facing the killer herself with her dog.

Fun series with good characters. Love the emphasis on pets and pet shelters. The bad guy is usually the one who doesn't care for dogs or cats. :-)
