Domestic Violence Awareness Month

At ASA College, we believe it is important to register the causes, effects, and pervasiveness of domestic violence. As the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence states, “Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) evolved from the ‘Day of Unity’ in October 1981 observed by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

ASA College Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month  

As a country, we observe this month to reflect upon the many successes that those of Hispanic origins have contributed to our country. From political leadership and entrepreneurship, to sports, culture and entertainment, the United States has been enriched by numerous contemporary Hispanic figures such as Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Alberto ‘Beto’ Perez (Zumba Fitness), World Champion boxer Oscar De La Hoya, author Julia Alvarez, and musician actress Jennifer Lopez – to name very few.

Classes suspended on Columbus Day

Classes will be suspended on Monday, October 11th due to the national holiday, Columbus Day. They will resume on Tuesday, October 12th.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, their families, and all those affected

On Tuesday, a tragedy we are all still trying to come to terms with affected the lives of the ASA Community. As you may know, a shooting occurred at the Stadium Hotel in Miami Gardens which involved ASA College student athletes that participated in our football program. One person is deceased and two people are being treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

We stand with the Cuban people as they practice their inalienable rights against the will of an oppressive government. As we know, the Freedom of Speech and the Freedom to Peacefully Assemble, rights protected by the First Amendment of our Constitution, are integral to the mission of our college academic community. One cannot learn and grow without self-expression and the opportunity to listen to those who can teach from their own diverse experiences. Now is the time for the Cuban government to listen as the people speak. The government must hear their needs and learn to provide for and protect their people.
