SWAT Team Swarms Montco Neighborhood After Attempted Murder-Suicide

A woman was flown to an area trauma center and a man is dead after an attempted murder-suicide inside a Montgomery County home on Monday morning.

The shooting took place around 10 a.m. at a home along the 2200 block of Harvard Drive in Montgomery Township, Pa., police said.

John Mathews, who lives along the block, said he walked outside after hearing gunshots, when a neighbor told him to run for cover because a shooting had just taken place.

"I looked out my window and across from me I saw this woman. She was obviously in some kind of distress and she sat on the curb and she looked like she was bleeding," he said. "And that's when the cops came and they just scooped her up and bordered off the houses."

Police tell NBC10.com the injured woman was medevaced to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Officials have not released her condition.

Mathews said he did not know the woman who was shot.

A large police officers, including a SWAT team, responded to the scene, which is part of a large townhouse development.

"They had their guns drawn. It was like something right out of the movies. It was amazing," Mathews said.

Surrounding homes were evacuated for a number of hours, but were finally allowed back in their homes just before 1 p.m.

Officials, who have been releasing scant details about the shooting, said the male shooter was killed. But they have not released how he died. The identities of the victims have also not been released.

Residents describe the neighborhood where the shooting took place as quiet.

"Nothing really goes on," said Jeff Jacob. "My kids play outside all the time. Nothing like this has happened since we've been living here."
