Cops: Male Dead, Female Injured In Montgomery County Shooting

By Jan Carabeo

NORTH WALES, Pa. (CBS) – The investigation continues in Montgomery County after a shooting on Harvard Court in North Wales on Monday.

Police say a woman who lives at the home was injured, and the gunman is dead.

It was a frightening start to the day for the community, with shots ringing out just before 10 a.m. on Monday.

"Just two pops, like pop pop. Just five seconds from one another," recalls neighbor Chris Speiss.

Then, a crush of law enforcement, including police and SWAT, arrived at the usually quiet townhome development.

"We saw two police officers walking down with their rifles drawn," says Brad Slobotkin, another neighbor.

"We were asked to leave; they banged on our doors," adds Alan Fishbein, who also lives in the complex.

"It was just like out of the movies, you know. It was amazing," says John Mathews, who lives a few doors down from where the shooting unfolded.

He and his fellow neighbors were eventually evacuated, but not before witnessing a bit of the chaos.

"I looked out my window, and across from me, I saw this woman who was obviously in some kind of distress. She sat on the curb and it looked like she was bleeding," Mathews remembers.

Police say the woman, who lives on the corner of Harvard Drive and Harvard Court, was shot and then airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

When SWAT arrived, the suspect was located inside.

"The Central Montgomery County SWAT Team made entry to the residence and found the lone occupant and the suspect, who had taken his own life," explains Lt. Scott Bendeig, of the Montgomery Township Police Department.

Those close to the incident broke down upon hearing the news, and after neighbors returned home, they took in the aftermath.

"It's a little scary," admits Jeff Jacob.

"It's sad to see something like this happen," adds Kathy Bean.

And friends are praying for the injured woman, who police are not identifying until they notify family.

Police are also not identifying the suspect for the same reason.

Eyewitness News is told the woman lives here with her family, including a daughter, who is in first grade. Neighbors say the victim was divorced.
