A Guardian's Desire

Rate this book
A warrior by trade and by nature, Freya Daniels is the best at what she does.

When bounty hunter Freya Daniels attends a pageant for werewolf debutantes and suitors, she's far too busy enjoying the perks of wealth and ceremony to realize she's being watched. When she meets the submissive wolf Rayne, she cannot believe her luck. The androgynous male is just perfect for her voracious appetite. But she's not expecting the beta wolf to come with a very dominant and powerful Alpha, Fenris.

Fenris is just as much of a warrior as Freya and twice the brute. While she would normally never consider dating a bull like Fenris, there is something different about the Alpha, something even she can't the attraction between wolf-mates. Together Rayne and Fenris are not only more than she can handle, but all the guardian could ever desire...if only she could admit that to herself.

Closer to 3.5 stars.

This book had an interesting take on a paranormal world. Well, at least the small slice of the world we are given entree to in this book.

This is an mmf romance featuring a Super Alpha male, an alpha female and a clever beta male. The main character is a female shifter who is of a warrior/protector caste (as far as I can discern from the world-build). Freya is smart, tough and sexually dominant.

As the story opens she is acting as the bodyguard of a group of girls who are attending a -- what I can only call a betrothal convention. Truthfully this is one element of the story that I rather really dug. The 'marriage mart' in this society consists of a several day retreat where shifters of a certain class go to a posh spa like place, meet possible mates, figure out who they like, if more than one guy is interested, they fight for her, there are organized activities etc. At the end of the several day convention betrothal contracts are presented and signed and people walk away with a new affianced. Yeah, this whole aspect of this particular shifter society tickled me.

Freya is only there as a bodyguard and as an enforcer to step in if any fights get too out of hand and to make sure her charges don't do anything that would scuttle their chances of a making an advantageous marriage. But she also finds herself the object of mate-interest to a dominant-submissive pair.

Since Freya isn't there to catch a mate of her own, she isn't too receptive. But she does like the idea of Rayne, the submissive wolf. What she balks against is that he comes as a matched set with the very dominant Alpha Fenris. So Freya's own courtship becomes fun, sexy, unexpected development for her where she has to accept that she might actually like being dominated herself.

So yeah this was a nice read with an interesting world-build.

This is my first experience with an alpha female as the herione of the book and I loved it! Freya, our shero, is working an easy gig; gaurd some girls as they find a mate during a weekend pagent. The warrior in Freya is bored without highstakes action or a pretty boy toy that she can dominant. Enter Rayne, a beautiful witch shifter who throws himself in Freya's path; they become entranced with each other. The problem? Rayne's big dominant alpha, Fenris, who has plans to make Freya one of the pageant girls!.

Omg, this book is so good. The prologue threw me off at first, but by the end I was like, YES! Rayne, isn't just some pretty boy; he tall and muscular with a handsome face, sensitivity, intelligence and some satisfying techniques. Fenris is his total opposite, not pretty but strong like bull and calculating. The pair work their way into Freya's heart and mine.

My favorite part is the courting, when Freya lets herself be free with Rayne and finally starts to accept Fenris. I have read the epilouge at least three times, the insecurities that Freya reveals to her mates is so heart warming; she finally let's somone in and is rewarded by unconditional love from not one, but two gorgeous men who call her mate.

There are some typos, but they are minor, not at all like so many other books out there. The book is totally worth it!

Too aggressive, too violent, too angry.

And this applies to everything. The protagonist is indefatigably violently opposed to love and couches her opposition in ugly anger and dysfunction. She drinks like a fish and throws stupid reactionary tantrums. Then there are these horrid fights and antagonistic pushing and pulling between the mates. There is no soft point in his book; just warlike behaviour, temperaments, activities, and speech.

It was all a turn off and I struggled to finish this. Not a pleasure.

Mya made me burn my dinner. Well, I suppose I shouldn’t have trucked the iPad into the kitchen to keep reading while I “cooked” so who’s fault is it really? Mya, for writing a book I couldn’t put down, or me, for trucking it into the kitchen? You decide. Either way, I ended up tossing the rice and making egg noodles with a tasty Parmesan sauce. But I digress.

Mya weaves a tale around a spectacular character, Freya, a bounty hunter who is taking an “easy” job after being nearly killed one of her missions. Of course, that “easy” job brings her into contact with Fenris and Rayne, who have set their sights on her as their mate. Freya, who is no one’s pushover, loves her some Rayne, a pretty, blond boy-toy who is a submissive, but she is reluctant to get involved with his alpha, Fenris a large, furry, tasty hunk of a man. Doing so would compel her to give up some of her own alpha-ness, something that Freya values as an integral part of her personality.

Did I tell you that the story takes place in the world of werewolves, witches, sorcerers and the like?

I loved Freya. She is tough, kick-ass and totally reluctant to wear a dress, but the author allows us to see her insecurities which makes her a real person, not just a paper doll. Too many times we see these supposedly invincible female characters, but when you take away their fighting skills, there’s nothing there. Not so in this case. Mya lets us take a peek at what makes Freya tick, making her relatable and likeable.

Both male characters were well-written and not in the least stereotypical. Too often in the MMF or MFM romance genre, one male is super-loud, pushy, bombastic and all around jerky while the other is super-soft, overly-emotional and blah. This was not the case. Each held their own character-wise as well as in battle. I liked the way they interacted with Freya, separately and together, sexually/non-sexually. I also liked the way they interacted with each other.

Funny, sexy and touching. The dynamics and the discussions among the three are real, not fluff. Mya made us care about how they interacted both in and out of the bedroom. Will they get along? Will each of them be able to compromise in order to form a three-sided relationship? Despite this being a romance, where the happily ever after is a given, I still found myself wondering how it was all going to work.

I hope Ms. Mya has a sequel in the works. I would love to see more from this trio. They get on so well together!!

I really enjoyed reading this book, which makes me sort of sad because I continually overlooked it when making my purchases at Loose-I'd. So glad I decided to pick it up after all these years. The heroine is not your typical heroine. She's tall, lean, and mean. She's a bodyguard of sorts and one of the only females in that position. And she loves it! So, of course she doesn't want to take a mate. Unfortunately, not one wolf but two set their eyes on her and the games begin. I normally don't like m/m/f stories because one of the men is always a drip. Not in this story. Both mates are hot and can hold their own.

Liked this one a lot. There is not enough polyamory romance with black women love interest. I miked that it was happening in real world like universe. I loved Freya who is a no nonsense bad ass bounty hunter. I loved Rayne for how he knew Freya so well and was paying attention to everything. He is the only reason why I didn't hate Fenris who is the most stereotypical alpha male and the least well developed character. He is just too alpha for my taste. I have always hated the whole sexual and emotional submitting to the alpha thing that plagues the genre. Like why id it always feeing for the alpha strong woman but never even suggested for the alpha strong man the same way?!!! Rayne made it a little less annoying, I think that is why I liked him way more than Fenris. But at the same time I wished it wasn't made by having him being 'weaker' (beta), and also more 'feminine' (being made fun for acting like a girl). That was very stereotypical and borderline offensive. I wish this was more nuanced and the characters, even Fenris, were more developed. Despite all those flaws, I really enjoyed it.

The push and pull felt manipulative considering the heroine is dominant in bed. She kept getting goaded by a submissive man and his dominant lover even though she made it clear how uncomfortable she was at the idea of being with the dominant man they just kept pushing. That pushiness was unattractive.

I thoroughly enjoyed the portrayal of the heroine, Freya Daniels, in this book. I liked that she has layers, depth, and isn't portrayed as a "male character with breasts" just because she is a warrior woman/were. She has emotions, although she does a great job of concealing them most of the time.
Mya shows us her tough side, by giving us a look at one of her hunts, where Freya leads a team of fierce all male bounty hunters. Then we get a "do-what-you-gotta do" side when she takes on a job of escorting young weres to a sort of werewolf debutante ball--the last thing she wants to be responsible for.
Once there she finds a submissive male, Rayne, to indulge in but balks when she finds out that he comes with a dominant male, Fenris. Freya thinks two alphas in a relationship spells trouble, and she resists her powerful attraction to both men. For a while. When her resistance finally falls away, their encounters are fiery, intense, and full of the give and take of Dom/sub romance.
I loved Freya for her unapologetic love of her passions: fighting, the hunt, and great food & drink, which she indulges in. She grew to realize that a relationship can be outside of the norm and still work. It's the mark of a truly strong heroine.
Mya was also clever in creating the werewolf world, giving us snippets of culture, magic, and a mystique that rivals what is most often attributed to vampires. A great read.

I like toootaaaally LOVED this story. Your Badass Female?✔ Sexy Ass but still strong as hell Twink?✔ Sexy ASS Dominant Alpha Wolf?✔ Horse Dick on both to boot?✔✔ Add in Badass Mom's, a party that never ends and loads of fighting, drinking and fucking and you got an all night, "put me down and get some fucking sleep its 3am" read. Oh my God i want a Fenris and Rayne just exactly like these, only they would be mine. Great job!!!!
The fact that she handles her business with her men by her side, and they don't mind her there??AWESOME!!!

Read on a whim and enjoyed. Has m/m on the side, which isn't my cuppa, but I knew it was part of the book going in. Entertaining read, wish it was longer because I definitely enjoyed the universe. Has some good battle scenes, wish we could have gotten more of the opening scene. Like I said, really wish this was 300-400 page book because the world is one you can get lost in.

Good

I actually liked this story. In the beginning I was totally irritated by the heroine and her need to be dominant in everything. But after a while it grows on you because she is a warrior. I love that Fenris and Rayne help to balance out the trio. I think the story would have been even better if we got POVs from Fenris and Rayne. Overall it's a good read.

I gave this story a four because it was unique in that the heroine was fierce and opposed to all that happy ending bullshit...at first. Plus the sex was good.

A different kind of paranormal romance. I liked that the female was stronger than the males. She rescued THEM. The sex was hot.

I received a book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
