Trenton police arrest two teens in shooting of city cab driver

Jacque Key, 18, of Trenton

TRENTON — An 18-year-old Trenton man and a 16-year-old city juvenile have been charged in the shooting of a city cab driver during a botched robbery last weekend, police said.

Police apprehended Jacque Key, 18, on Saturday while canvassing the area near the shooting on the 1400 block of Edgewood Avenue, Lt. Stephen Varn said. The cab driver was shot in the foot.

Key and the second teen, who was arrested this week, were allegedly two of the three passengers who attempted to rob a 54-year-old cab driver from the back seat of the vehicle, Varn said. They were both charged with attempted robbery and weapons offenses, Varn said.

One of the three passengers allegedly shot the cab driver in the foot as he sped away after the trio exited the vehicle, police said.

Police found Key in possession of a stolen handgun and marijuana at the time of his arrest, Varn said.

The juvenile was transferred to a Middlesex County youth correctional facility.
