Covid jabs available from this weekend

Covid-19 and influenza vaccinations will be made available at the Hamilton Health Centre by appointment only, the Ministry of Health has announced.

The ministry said: “These vaccinations are an essential part of our efforts to protect Bermuda residents against respiratory infections, which can be severe and life-threatening.”

The Covid-19 vaccinations will be free but priority will be given to those who may be at increased risk of illness.

Eligibility criteria include being 65 or older, having chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma or heart disease, being a healthcare or essential service worker or living with those with weakened immune systems.

Vaccination appointments will be available between 9am and 1pm on January 20, between 9am and 4pm on January 23 and between 9am and 1pm on January 27.

To book an appointment, the public are invited to call 278-6460.

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said: “Influenza and Covid-19 can lead to symptoms ranging from mild to severe, potentially resulting in hospital admission or death, particularly among high-risk groups like the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.

“The Ministry of Health strongly recommends that eligible individuals get vaccinated.

“As always, remember that all Bermuda residents have a role in preventing the spread of respiratory infections through public health and hygiene measures such as hand washing, mask wearing, staying home when sick and getting vaccinated.”

The influenza vaccination is recommended for those over the age of 12 and will be made available free of charge for those over the age of 65 and $20 for others.

For more information about vaccine eligibility and availability, the public can contact the Department of Health at 278-6542.
