Temperatures are set to cool down later this week, just in time for July 4 celebrations over the weekend.

Central Valley

Temperatures will be relatively cooler for the holiday weekend, expect highs in the upper 90s.

“This weekend will see relatively cooler temperatures, which is the good news,” said Scott Borgioli, chief meteorologist at WeatherAg. “The bad news, it’s still hot. But it’s tolerable.”

Valley residents shouldn’t see a high above 100-degrees this July 4, he said.

Because of the cooler weather, by the time night falls and firework shows begin, temperatures should be in the mid 80s.

There will not be an excessively strong wind, also beneficial for firework displays.

“The name of the game is to remember to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water,” he said. “Remember to wear sunscreen and take the typical heat precautions.”

Mountains

Families planning a camping trip this weekend can expect a dry climate.

This week will see the last of the thunderstorm activity, pushing the humidity out of the Valley.

Foothill temperatures are expected to reach highs in the 90s, and lows in the low 60s below 4,000 feet. Highs in the 80s, lows in the 50s and 60s for elevations 4,000 to 7,000 feet. Those going above 7,000 feet can expect highs in the 60s and 70s, and lows in the 40s and 50s.

Central Coast

Those traveling to the Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo and the surrounding area this holiday weekend can expect to see temperatures in the mid 60s to 70s throughout the weekend.

During the summer, the Central Coast typically experiences morning and night fog and low clouds, Borgioli said.

“It’s the same this weekend,” he said. “Some beach areas may be slow to clear clouds, but you can drive a couple miles and the coastline will be clear.”

Visalia cooling center

Due to continued hot temperatures, the Visalia cooling center will remain open through Friday.

The center will be open for public use from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and is in the lobby of the Visalia Transit Center, at 425 E. Oak Ave.
