Season previews of “Parts Unknown” airs Sunday

A local courir de Mardi Gras is part of "Cajun Mardi Gras," an episode in the upcoming season of "Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown" on CNN.

“Cajun Mardi Gras,” a feature on the food, music and culture of Lafayette, Opelousas and the surrounding area, is part of the new season of the CNN original series “Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown.”

Season 11 of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series begins at 8 p.m. Central time April 29 with Bourdain’s visit to West Virginia.

“Cajun Mardi Gras” is scheduled to air June 17 on CNN, according to the network’s web site.

The hour-long episode will feature a local courir de Mardi Gras, a crawfish boil and zydeco music.

Bourdain, a veteran chef and best-selling author, was stopped in Grand Coteau for a home-cooked meal prepared by chefs Toby Rodriguez and Jolie Meaux.

Rodriguez and Bourdain visited Billy’s in Opelousas for boudin and cracklins.

Bourdain had a Sunday lunch at Laura’s 2 in Lafayette, which included a conversation with Dave Lemelle of the Step-N-Strut trail ride, Sid Williams of El Sido’s Zydeco and Blues Club and Herman Fuselier, Daily Advertiser music and entertainment writer and host of “Zydeco Stomp” on KRVS 88.7 FM.

Previews of the upcoming episodes, along with a look back at Season 10, can be seen during “Prime Cuts,” which airs at 8 p.m. Central time Sunday on CNN.

“Parts Unknown” returns April 29 with an extended episode on local dishes of West Virginia, such as snapping turtle patties, squirrel gravy, spaghetti pie and bear meat. Locals discuss their views on the second amendment, Pres. Donald Trump, the coal industry and reclaiming West Virginia cuisine.
