KILLEN, AL (WAFF) - A Killen police officer was arrested on a grand jury indictment for domestic violence.

Investigators said Wesley Lee Tidwell bit his mistress on the nose during a fight in Lauderdale County in December.

They said the two were married at the time and had been seeing each other for two years. At some point during the December meeting to break off the relationship, they got in a fight. According to investigators, Tidwell bit the woman's nose during their fight.

"After the altercation, she was able to get away; at which time she filed a report," said Richard Richey with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department. "It was presented to this past grand jury and he was indicted for domestic violence third degree."

Tidwell was booked into jail and was released on $1,000 bond.

Tidwell is not on patrol and his employment status with the Killen Police Department is pending. His attorney, Tim Case, sent this response to his client's case.

"Wesley and I are looking forward to our day in court to show that not only is his defense understandable but it should be compelling to a Judge and/or Jury. Wesley is a very good officer and is also a volunteer fireman. Wesley has devoted his life to public service, both professionally and on a voluntary basis as well. Wesley is in good spirits and is anxiously awaiting his day in Court."

Investigators said they are committed to taking a stand against domestic violence and abuse in Lauderdale County.

"It doesn't matter if you're an ordinary citizen, if you're a police officer, or what your status is in the community," said Richey. "If you commit a crime of domestic violence, we will charge you with it."
