We all have dreams...
When I was a little girl, one of my favorite things to do was art. I used to draw and color for hours on end, make unique bracelets from whatever we could find or afford to buy at Woodward's, and like most little girls, I acted in little plays or lip synced with my sister and cousins in our play room. Sometimes, we even invited an audience to watch our performances. Our family's entertainment for the weekend!
I dreamed of being a star through some creative process. Recently, I found a journal from the first grade which one of my favorite teacher's had us make in class. As I browsed through it, reflected on the drawings, the dreams I had and the descriptions of my life at 6 years old, I couldn't help but think about how this little journal, with its sketches and sentences, means so much to me today some 25 years later.
Isn't it wonderful to be able to look back at your life via art?
As we get older, we sometimes forget about those little things, that little person that we used to be, the one that wanted to be a signer, a firefighter, or even an astronaut. As I have grown older, I have constantly been reminded that who we are when we are little is so important to our development as an adult. In the time I have been able to work with children and teens, I have seen the importance of fueling creativity, passion and possibility in the young people who will lead the next generation.
