Striking AT&T workers return to jobs
Striking AT&T customer service workers in San Diego returned to their jobs Wednesday after a six-day grievance strike over how call center employees are monitored.
About 1,700 Communications Workers of America Local 9509 members walked off the job May 19 after AT&T refused to release monitoring reports that the union said the company was contractually obligated to provide.
Chris Roberts, president of CWA Local 9509, said the two sides came to an agreement in which AT&T will provide a certain number of reports in a matter of days. The company also will meet with union representatives to discuss practices around daily monitoring of conversations at the San Diego call center.
Roberts said he was pleased that Local 9509 reached an agreement that meet the union’s goals regarding concerns over the methods used to scrutinize members on the job.
In a statement, AT&T said “the dispute was resolved last night, and we’re glad the employees will be back at work serving customers.”
