A shooting in West Philadelphia has left a man critically injured.

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An early morning shooting in West Philadelphia has left a man critically injured.

Police say someone opened fire on the man, who was sitting in his car, around 5:00 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of 56th Street and Haverford Avenue by the Haverford Branch of the Philadelphia Free Library.

Police tell Action News that the victim sped away from the scene crashing into a book return bin in front of the library and continued on Market Street going towards the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Officers pulled the victim over at 55th and Market and rushed him to the hospital.

Police are trying to figure out what sparked the shooting.
