VANCOUVER -- A short-lived power outage at Vancouver International Airport has caused a cascading series of disruptions, creating headaches for some travellers.

Airport spokeswoman Kate Donegani says the 40-minute outage hit at around 7 a.m. and affected only the domestic terminal which handles flights to and from Canadian destinations.

She says power has been restored but it's taking a while to get systems back online.

Donegani could not say exactly how many domestic flights are affected, but noted it is "more than handful" as travellers face challenges checking in and making their way through security screenings.

She's hopeful the backlog will be cleared once all computers are back up and running.

Passengers on departing flights are encountering the most disruptions but Donegani says all passengers are being urged to contact their airline for the latest information and to leave lots of time if they are travelling through YVR.
