PATERSON — Six people were wounded in a drive-by shooting Monday night, police said.
All six – four males and two females – are listed in stable condition this morning, despite various wounds ranging from a graze to the head, to bullet injuries in the torso, leg and foot, said Lt. Patrick Murray of the city’s Cease-Fire Unit.
Paterson officers responded to the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue on several reports of shots fired at 10:35 p.m., Murray said.
Police have determined a dark-colored car was initially traveling west on Godwin Avenue, and began to slow down as it crossed the street’s intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard.
As it slowed, numerous shots were fired at a crowd of people standing on the sidewalk – striking the six people, Murray said.
The vehicle sped off west down Godwin Street toward Carroll Street.
The four males were aged 17, 18, 24 and 61. The females were 18 and 45 years old, Murray said. All six were taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition this mroning.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Cease-Fire unit at (973) 321-1342.
About a quarter-mile north of the Tuesday night attack, another drive-by shooting left three wounded in March at another Rosa Parks Boulevard intersection. In the last six months, there has been a string of shootings along roughly a mile-long stretch of Rosa Parks Boulevard, including police-involved shooting in which the officer shot and killed a suspected home-invasion robber in January.
A 23-year-old man was also shot in the head and killed in April, about a block away from the scene of Monday night's shooting.
