Part of the Unseelie Sidhe, I have seen my fair share of dark. I use this in my writing. Please join me on my adventures :-) ====================================== Biography Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1977, DJ Shaw was 17 before she was able to see most of the United States. When she was 17, she decided to join the fair, traveling with them to Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Once the fair arrived in Lake Charles, DJ had decided it was time to go home, that she had had enough of traveling with the fair. She much rather preferred to sit around writing, or even telling, the lives of the people who lived in her head. She had been good at story-telling from the time she was about ten, when she scared herself so bad with her story of the Boogey-man that she couldn’t move off her bed. Her siblings would come to her for their scare fix, because they knew she could come up with something on the spot. Having found what she loved to do at an early age, she continued to write down her stories and any poetry that came into her head. She had stacks upon stacks of notebooks filled with her work. Her love of horror movies made her stories that much more chilling. When she’s not writing, she’s listening to music, supporting her favorite adopted brother and his band “Traveler in Pain”, playing with her five children, spending time with her husband of nine years or watching horror movies in the middle of the night just for the scare factor.

phegru's Revenge ★☆★☆ D.J Shaw E-book Copy provided by author in exchange for an honest review
Phegru's Revenge is not a book I would have picked up if I were in a bookstore. I usually read YA or NA novels. I am not sure even how to classify this little novella.
But I can say I actually really enjoyed the book! It was a nice quick read that took me all of 15-20min yet still left me satisfied at the end.
The plot is DEF. something I am not used to. It is about a girl who is kidnapped by a "priest" who is trying to exorcize this demon Phegru who is the demoness of jealousy. I almost felt like I was in an episode of Criminal minds throughout the first few chapters. With a psychopath who believes this girl is possessed and only he can help her.
With a novella this short its hard to explain whats going on without spoilers and I def. don't want to spoil anything! I am really glad I took the time to read this book and I look forward to checking more out from this author!
I absolutely love the horror, darkness, and creepiness, with the whacked out priest and the demoness possessed human. I was enchanted and addicted to this story from beginning to end. This is a very fast paced story and very well written.
This is an awesome Supernatural/Paranormal read and I highly recommend it!!
I received an e-ARC copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
This is the first novella in a new series be prepared to want more. Delightfully delicious. After being tormented, tortured and finally broken then released after three long years of captivity while a priest performs an exorcism on her, as he claims the demoness Phegru has invaded Kylie. She’s finally released only to have the demoness taken rout inside her vying for control.
Opening Scene:
Picture this: You wake to find yourself tied to a chair and every time you move you can feel the ropes chewing into your skin. The blood tickles, making you want to scratch at it.
The Review:
Kylie is held captive and tortured by a priest for three long years, as he tries to exorcise the demon Phegru from her. Then one day he releases her back into the world, declaring her free from the demon. Now Kylie has to try and live again, but with the demon Phegru claiming her soul life is taking a twist for the dark side.
Notable Scene:
She felt a movement to her left and then heard his voice, "So, you’re finally awake. I didn't think I used that much chloroform." She could hear the rasping of his clothes as he moved closer. She was frightened, but the thought of this unseen male moving towards her pushed that emotion into terrified, "W-w-w-what do you want? Where am I?" she stuttered as she renewed her struggles against the ropes binding her. "Hush, child. You’re safe. I merely tied you up for your protection.” She heard his footsteps retreat She heard his footsteps retreat towards the area of the window. When his footsteps stopped and the echoing had faded, there was only silence. She strained her ears, listening for the smallest of movements but there were none. Kylie wasn’t sure how much time had passed before she heard a light scraping accompanied by a squeaking. Her body began to tremble, all kinds of horrible images of what this man could do to her running through her mind, and she was afraid to find out what was making that terrible noise. Silence reigned once again and she wasn’t sure if she should be relieved or if she could get any more frightened. Before her body, let alone her mind, could make a decision, she was blinded by a bright light. “You see, you’re possessed with the demon Phegru and I’ve brought you here to exorcise her. I felt the demon the minute I laid eyes on you in the bar," he began checking the ropes on her wrists and ankles, making sure they would hold her, ensuring there would be absolutely no chance for escape. She shuddered when his hands touched her bare skin as she told him, "I don't believe in that sort of thing. There is no way that I'm possessed! By a demon or otherwise!" He chuckled softly as he lit a cigarette. "Ah, but you are, my dear," he answered while exhaling. "I’m a highly trained priest and I know how to seek these things out. If you would only let me help you and have faith in God, you shall see that your life will be so much more wonderful." Kylie heard him move further into the room, and then squinted against the light that was shining on her. She couldn't get a good look at the man who had taken her captive and she was terrified to find out what he planned to do to her.
FTC Advisory: DJ Shaw provided me with a copy of Phegru’s Revenge. Tiger Dynasty Publishing. Kindle Edition. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
You know, I never used to read short stories. I mean, come on. What can possibly happen in less than a hundred pages, right? Well, several months ago, I took a chance and am so glad I did. At that point I'd already read a trilogy by an author I was familiar with. Shaw is now the second author of short stories I've read. I am so glad I took that chance all those months ago. Had I not, I would have missed out on some great stories.
Phegru's Revenge is the third short story I've read from Shaw. In just a few pages she takes us on a whirlwind ride of fear becoming hopelessness, morphing into acceptance, turning into want, and finally becoming loss. But wait a minute, the title says "Revenge." Where does that come in you ask. In the sweetest bit of horrifying justice (sort of) you could imagine.
Kylie has been kidnapped and told it's for her own good. He tells her she hosts a demon that must be exorcised. And so her kidnapper proceeds to do what she believes is an exorcism. Her captivity is a long one. After three years, Kylie is finally released. By this time, she has come to depend on her captor and is reluctant to go.
I'm going to side-step for a moment, but I'll come back to discussing the story. Many years ago, a friend was explaining part of her belief system. Karma she said, is our reward or punishment in a future life based on our actions in this one. Dharma is similar, the difference being we reap in this life what our actions have sown. So, back to my thoughts on this story.
What neither Kylie nor her captor knew was that she really was host to a demon. A very. Particular. Demon. When her captor reappears in her life, he's no longer dealing with Kylie, and dharma is about to come calling.
I found Shaw's writing to be very singular, or maybe driven would be a better choice of words, in this story. I could almost, but not quite, sense the way the story would end. I found the ending to be ironic and grinned. Shaw makes me glad I gave up my hard stand against short stories. I enjoyed this one as much as the other two. I'm pretty sure you will too. Well written, well edited, and very well thought out. I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A creepy tale about revenge and what happens to those who go against and challenge a demon. This is the second short story from this author that I have read and it was as creepy and scary as the last.
Imagine waking up in a dark room with no memory of getting there. You’re not alone though because there is a man standing just in front of you, claiming to be a priest trying to rid you of a demon living inside of you. This is what happens to one of the main character in the story, Kylie. After years of torment and torture, the man finally releases her, proclaiming her freed from this demon. But was she? What did he really release when he let her go?
He should have remembered that revenge is sweet and what goes around comes around.
Very good short story and the fact that this author managed to scare me with this chilling short was awesome. I will be reading more from this author since I love these books so much! I recommended to anyone who loves the horror genre and isn’t squeamish.
My favorite quotes:
“There is no way that I’m possessed! By a demon or otherwise!”
“He seemed so sure of himself, and it was going to be a true pleasure to break him.”
“She was beautiful and had a fire burning deep inside her soul that talked to him.”
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review and it ROCKED!
DJ's portrayal of Kylie time in captivation and the eventual Stockholm syndrome was written so perfectly, I actually felt the shift in her personality.
Victor, the crazy priest was such an amazing captor. His insanity and complete obsession with Kylie even after he set her free added the creepy factor this story needed.
Phegru, she was everything you could want in a demoness and more. I was enthralled by how bloodthirsty she was but that she had the patience to wait until the optimum time to ensure her success.
This is a great supernatural/paranormal read! Do not miss it!
Oh what a twisted dark web we weave. This one was a super quick read. Like one blink and it was over, not sure if it was because I was really into it, or it was just too short. Well. With kidnappings, tortures, deranged want to be priests, exercisiom and then demon possession, let’s just say there was always something. Not a boring page in this one. I would have loved it to be longer, more detailed, and not such a creepy diet for Phegru. Eww. That is all I will say on that. If you are faint of heart, pass on this one and pick another book. If you are looking for a thrilling ride, you must read this one.
I received this book as a gift from the author in exchange for an honest review. This novella is only 21 pages but don’t let that keep you from giving it a chance. Instantly, Shaw had my full attention and my hunger to read more. The short story is very dark and twisted with the main character being possessed by a demon and a “priest” trying to save her, but something in the way it’s laid out makes you want more. While I loved the story for the most part, the ending was a bit disappointing; not so much to keep me from recommending it to everyone that likes scary stories. If you are into dark, demented reads, you will really like this short story.
This is also a dark, twisted tale. A terrible fate has made itself home in a young woman's soul and a man attempts to purge her of it. I was really scared of this tale and did not like how the story came to an end. I prefer the ending where things are left happily. To say this does not deliver that ending would be an understatement. Do not read in the dark, or ever if you prefer happy endings. This is probably only fit for those who can stomach dark, twisted realities.
Okay this is a tough one for me. I won this book in a giveaway. I read it, but definitely not my type of story. It was well written, but I'm not into stories that are this dark...with kidnapping, torture, cannibalism, and evil. This story would probably be loved by someone who isn't into goodness and likes very dark content. Again, nothing wrong with the story, just not me :)
OMY!!!! This is a great short story.. I can't even put into words about this book. Only because I would so say everything about the story.. YOU will just have to read it!!
Author DJ Shaw sent me the ebook in exchange for a honest review
This was such a fascinating short story. When I started reading, I thought it was a book, so when the plot started, I was curious where the hell is this going. Then suddenly it ended and it all made sense and I was left in awe that someone can write such a brilliant short story. I believe it might be even harder to pull of a great short story rather than as whole novel, though I'm not an author so I might be also mistaken.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. It’s a quick read and I’m not quite sure what to make of the story. If you love books with demons and everything works out for the character (not necessarily the mc) then this is the book for you. Personally, I wished there was a little more conflict or something that makes you want to be on the edge of your seat hoping they make it out okay. 2.5 stars.
A quick, fast paced tale o terror and torment and the revenge that is taken from one that used to be captive and becomes even more terrible to on that was once her tormentor years before. I loved it!!!
Phegru’s Revenge is a creepy, scary read. And I was immediately intrigued by the dark horror of the story.
After years of torment and torture in the basement of a man proclaiming to be a priest attempting to exorcise a demon from you, Kylie is finally released. He expects her to be a broken mess, but he didn’t know that breaking Kylie’s spirit and soul allows Phegru to become stronger faster.
This is a fast paced book that I read in one sitting. Though short in length, it is full of suspense and action.
I love this creepy little story, and I plan to read more from this author.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Kylie awoke to find herself tied up in a basement, being visited a priest who was attempting to drive out a demon named Phegru, that he said was residing in Kylie. Was he a deranged kidnapper? Or has Kylie really been possessed by Phegru? As the story is a short I won’t reveal any more, but I can say that although this was a quick read, there were some twists that I did not see coming. I think the Author could have gone with a full length novel with this story; and although I give it five stars I think I would have preferred that, as I didn’t want the story to end, which is the sign of a good read. A dark, twisted, short read.
I picked up this book at InstaFreebies, for the very reasonable price of FREE! Having said that, i had never heard of DJ Shaw, and got the book purely on the short description. Well it was an inspired choice! It is only a short story (18 pages) but definitely a creepy story. The story starts with a girl waking up, finding she has been kidnapped by a priest intent to exorcise an ancient demon. If this was a full novel, I would have loved to explore this storyline. What if this happens all the time? What if the 'madmen' who kidnap girls and keep them in basement dungeons are trying to rid the world of demons? But anyway, great short story, and well worth the read!!
This is one of those stories that grab you by the throat and doesn't let go until the end. The author sets the mood from the introduction and pulls the reader in, whose at the point of trying to figure out what the he'll is going on. The author then throws a plot twist and whatever the reader was thinking gets thrown out the window. The writer then throws another plot twist where things tend to get a bit graphic, but overall this was a very very good read without a lot of fluff to make a coherent story.
Phegru is the Duchess of Wraith and Jealousy. A woman named Kylie is caputured by a nut who ties her to a chair and vows to remove the evil demon from her. He has done this with other women and their skeletons are in his basement.
Phegru also eats the skin of people. Kylie has Phegru inside her and the question becomes whether the demon will take over and, if it does, what happens to the nut case holding her?
It's an all-right story but it just doesn't seem that terribly interesting to me.
What a fascinating plot! This one had me hooked by the first chapter. Phegru is quite the unusual… Oops! No spoilers here! It's a thriller you won't want to miss. Well written, quite descriptive and intense moments. I highly recommend and give author D.J. Shaw 5 stars!!
