Cedar City police officer arrested on DUI charges

CEDAR CITY – Cedar City Police officer Jed Prisbey Imlay was charged Monday night for driving under the influence after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident in his patrol car.

According to officials, at approximately 7 p.m., Imlay who was off duty at the time, ran his patrol car into a retaining wall near a baseball field in the Cedar City limits but left the scene of the crash.

Reports show that someone called dispatchers to report the incident.

While the retaining wall did not incur any damages, officials reported that Imlay’s patrol car did sustain some.

Due to a conflict of interest, the Cedar City Police Department turned the case over to the Utah Highway Patrol, who conducted the investigation.

Officials said it was during the investigation of the accident that the DUI came to light.

Details of the findings were not made immediately available.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, court records had not been filed in either the Washington County or Iron County courts.

Washington County Attorney Brock Belnap confirmed he had been told about the case but said his office has not yet received any police reports.

He also said he has not talked with the Iron County Attorney’s Office to confirm who would be prosecuting the case.

Cedar City Police Chief Bob Allinson said Imlay started in the department in 2005.

“He’s had a good career and has been a great officer,” the chief said.

Imlay was arrested and taken to the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Washington County.

He was booked in on a class A misdemeanor for driving under the influence and a class B misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident.

Washington County jailers confirmed Tuesday evening that Imlay is free on $2,213 bail.
