HARRISBURG — City police Chief Thomas Carter confirmed that a young man who was shot in Hall Manor late Tuesday evening has died from his injuries.

City K-9 units assisted in a search of the area Tuesday night but no suspect descriptions was available as of shortly after midnight.

The shooting was reported toward 11:30 p.m. in the 39 or 40 row of Hall Manor when a single 911 caller informed police a shooting had just taken place. When officers arrived a short time later, the victim, described only as a young black male, was prone in the street, Carter said.

The victim was shot at least once in the upper torso or chest area and was in critical condition when an ambulance arrived to rush him to the Harrisburg Hospital, Carter said.

The man succumbed to his injuries after the ambulance left the scene, Carter said. Police will not name the victim until his identity is confirmed and his next of kin has been notified, Carter said.

Neighbors lined the sidewalks and peered around police cruisers stacked up and down the street near the scene as forensics specialists used flashlights to search for clues near where the man was found. Residents were reluctant to discuss the shooting.

Several city K-9 units were out in the area assisting in a search, but no information was immediately available regarding any potential suspects or arrests tied to the shooting.

As of shortly after midnight Tuesday no suspect descriptions were being released by police and the name of the victim was also not being released.

Harrisburg city police Chief Thomas Carter confirmed the victim died from his injuries after the shooting late Tuesday.

"Detectives are interviewing witnesses right now, but I personally haven't spoken to any of the witnesses so I don't know what they might have seen," Carter said.

The victim's body was being held at the Harrisburg Hospital pending an examination and autopsy by the Dauphin County Coroner's Office, Carter said.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or who can provide additional information was asked to call Dauphin County police dispatchers at 717-558-6900 and ask to be put in touch with a Harrisburg officer.

Detective Jason Paul will be heading up the homicide investigation, Carter said. Paul can be reached at 717-255-3154.
