'I witnessed 46 deaths at Tiananmen', says John Simpson

Following weeks of protest in Beijing's Tiananmen Square in 1989, Chinese authorities sent in soldiers and tanks to clear the heart of the capital, killing hundreds of unarmed civilians.

The BBC's John Simpson, who was reporting from Beijing at the time, reflects on the protests and their violent end.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 4 June.
