Vaccine clinic transportation provided for disabled community
The Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities is coordinating transportation for people with disabilities, older adults, and caregivers to a vaccine clinic at the Metropolitan Multi-Services Center. The event is a partnership with the Houston Health Department and the Houston Center for Independent Living. Details here.

Project Firstline Offers Free CDC Infection Control Training For Healthcare Workers
The Houston Health Department is proud to locally launch Project Firstline, a CDC-led infection control training collaborative designed to meet the diverse needs of healthcare personnel. Project Firstline seeks to empower Houston’s healthcare workers with the knowledge and skills to better protect themselves, their facility, family, and community from infectious disease threats, such as COVID-19. Congenital Syphilis surges in Houston-area
The Houston Health Department urges expectant mothers to act now as fetal deaths linked to congenital syphilis surge in the Houston-area. Preliminary data indicate that fetal deaths in Harris County (including Houston) increased from four in 2019 to 14 in 2020, a 250-percent increase. Read more.

DAWN Appreciation Event
Recently, DAWN (Diabetes Awareness & Wellness Network) gathered for their first-ever Client Appreciation Drive-Thru event. DAWN staff took biometrics, shared tips on diabetes health, COVID-19 vaccine information, and much more.
The DAWN Center provides free diabetes self-management education and other health-related services to Houstonians to reduce and prevent chronic disease. Learn more.

Better. Together. campaign wins award
The National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO) recently announced that HHD's Better. Together. COVID-19 campaign was named a Bronze Innovative Practice. This designation highlights the innovative program that effectively met the needs of Houstonians during the pandemic.

National Women's Health Month & WIC
May is Women's Health Month and a great time for women to learn how to lead a healthier lifestyle. WIC is the special supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children. The program focuses on the health and nutrition of Houston's pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women and their children. The Texas CARES Project is providing a series of up to three free COVID-19 antibody tests to all Texans ages 5-80 (regardless of previous COVID-19 positivity and/or vaccination status, up to two people per household)!
