An equestrian estate in San Juan Capistrano that includes a large, converted barn appointed with all the features of a separate home is on the market for $3.4 million.
The 5,400-square-foot house is on 2.9 acres, among the largest residential properties for sale in the city. The estate includes five horse stalls and a riding arena.
Built in 1990 and extensively remodeled, the four-bedroom home at 30081 Hillside Terrace in Stoneridge Estates has a gourmet kitchen with two center islands and wine storage for 200 bottles. The house includes a library and exercise room, and the yard has a swimming pool and spa.
A 3,400-square-foot barn on a hill above the home could be a giant guest house or the setting for large family gatherings. It has media and dining areas, a full kitchen, an entertainer’s bar, a studio apartment and its own two-car garage.
The barn and surrounding land offer sweeping views of the hills. The property is near the equestrian trails.
Rich and Julie Encinas of First Team Real Estate are the listing agents. Rich Encinas suggested a buyer could plant a vineyard in the hills below the barn, as some local residents have done.
Other homeowners in the area, he said, have built “killer garages” for exotic car collections.
An open house will be held today from noon to 5 p.m.
San Juan Capistrano’s 92675 ZIP code had 129 active listings as of mid-April, according to ReportsOnHousing.com. The average list price was $1.3 million.
