What did Meghan and Harry do with thousands of used wedding flowers?
What exactly does a royal couple do with hundreds of thousands of flowers once the wedding is over? In the case of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they donated a portion of them to a hospice in London.
Fifty gorgeous bouquets showed up at St. Joseph’s Hospice the day after the wedding. Each arrangement was given to patients on the wards.
“We are delighted to receive the flowers from such a beautiful occasion, it brought so much joy to our patients,” a representative from St. Joseph’s told Humankind.
Prince Harry handpicked some of his bride's bridal bouquet flowers from a Kensington Palace garden. Some of the included flowers were forget-me-nots, Princess Diana’s favorite flower. The touching gesture was one of many nods to the late princess on her son’s special day.
St. Joseph’s Hospice posted a photo of one of their patients holding a lovely white and green bouquet. “Our hospice smells and looks gorgeous. Such a lovely gesture,” said the post on Facebook.
While some of the flowers that decorated St. George’s Chapel for the royal wedding went to the hospice, Duchess Meghan’s bridal bouquet was placed at the grave of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey. The tradition began in 1923 with the late Queen Mother’s bouquet from her wedding to Prince Albert.
