Inspired Words
What makes a river so restful to people is that it doesn't have any doubt - it is sure to get where it is going, and it doesn't want to go anywhere else. - Hal Boyle

Attend a Summer Cover Crop Farm Tour in Montana

The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT), the Montana Organic Association, the NRCS and Montana Farmers Union have been working together on a USDA Risk Management Agency supported project to explore cover cropping and crop insurance issues. As part of that project there will be four farm tours being offered.

The connection to watersheds?

The practice of cover crops can benefit both the farmer and the watershed.  Cover crops reduce surface runoff, soil loss, and nutrient leaching, helping to protect streams and lakes from excess sediment and nutrients, and contamination from agricultural chemicals.

FWP program accelerates fishing-access site improvement

Once the spring warmth melts the snow along Montana's rivers, fishing access site managers jump into action, knowing they have a brief window of time before rising streamflows make repair work at some access sites impossible.

Council to take comment on Clark Fork, Kootenai basin recommendations
The Clark Fork Task Force, the advisory council for the Clark Fork and Kootenai river basins, has completed a draft report of recommendations it will forward to the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation at the end of May.  Before the report is submitted, however, meetings are scheduled around the basin to allow the public to comment on the recommendations. Online public comment will also be available through May 16.
