ALROSA BECOMES A MEMBER OF THE RJC

Alrosa has become a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), the Russian miner announced. The RJC certification is good for three years – the maximum time period granted by the RJC.

 

According to Alrosa, quoted by Gem Konnect, the certification “took several months” and involved “a comprehensive sustainability audit covering social responsibility, environmental protection, and best ethical principles of business, including the fight against corruption, respect for human rights and ensuring decent working conditions”. In 2016, Alrosa’s social investments “exceeded RUB 10 billion ($170 million), and the costs of environmental activities amounted to RUB 5.5 billion ($93.5 million)”.

 

Alrosa President Sergey Ivanov observed: “Once again Alrosa proved its compliance with the high standards of responsible business conduct. We are proud that our work has been highly appreciated by independent experts and in accordance with the highest industry standard […]”.
