Comress authors publish in the European Journal of Cultural Studies on TV political satire

The professor from the Department of Media, Communication and Culture and head of Communication and Social Responsibility research group (Comress InCom-UAB) Carme Ferré-Pavia, the professor from the Universitat Ramon Llull (URL) Marçal Sintes and the professor of the UAB and researcher in Comress (InCom-UAB) Catalina Gayà wrote the article “The perceived effects of televised political satire among viewers and the communication directors of political parties: a European case”, published in the latest issue of the European Journal of Cultural Studies, edited by Sage.

The article analyzes the perceptions of political satire from the spectators point of view compared with the spin-doctors of political parties, with a case study about the Television of Catalonia program Polònia, through a methodology based on random survey, interviews and focus group.

index The research deals with different perceptions about the capacity of satire to remove opinion changes. Conclusions suggest that the parties’ communication managers perceive that satire is persuasive and closer to the political reality than citizens do. The viewers consulted, in their turn, deny that the program generates opinion changes.
