An Interview with Alexandrea Weis
It is the third book in the Magnus Blackwell supernatural suspense series. Magnus Blackwell lived a cruel and evil life in the Victorian era New England. After his death, he must redeem the sins he committed by helping a young woman named Lexie Arden with a very special gift—she can speak with the dead. Magnus become her spiritual guide to help her navigate the waters of the world of voodoo, where she will be considered a mambo, or high priestess. But there are many who want to see her fail, and book 2, Bound, is the beginning of Lexie’s journey into the darker aspects of voodoo. The gods of good and evil will fight to control her power. But because of who Magnus is, his past plays a pivotal role in determining Lexie’s future.
Writing isn’t easy. What was the most difficult thing you dealt with when writing your newest book? Series writing is hard because you have to carry so much over from books one and two to tell the story. Remembering what you wrote is the trick and I am always going back to check the facts in the previous books to weave into the story.
Tell us a little bit about your writing career.
I have been publishing books for almost 11 years now. Bound, book 2 in The Magnus Blackwell Series is my 26th novel. With more planned for later this year and through 2019 with my publisher Vesuvian Books.
They say Hind-sight is 20/20. If you could give advice to the writer you were the first time you sat down to write, what would it be?
Write. Do not worry about what you write, write the story. How you write it is editing and your style will change with time, but not your voice. Find that first, worry about the technical side of writing later.
What was your most difficult scene to write?
Toward the end of the book, Lexie is handed her sacrifice, what she had to give up to gain more power as a mambo. That was a tough one.
Are themes a big part of your stories, or not so much?
I never set out to put themes in my stories, but my readers say they are there. It’s not intentional.
What are you working on now?
I am finishing up edits on my 2/2019 YA historical release Realm. It’s about the wife of Alexander the Great, Roxana. Her life with him during his campaigns, and her life without him as she tries to keep their son alive amide the battle of his generals for his empire after his death. It’s an epic novel, and a very sad, but true story.
Is there a release date planned?
So far Feb 5, 2019 from Vesuvian Books.
Who is your favorite character from your own stories, and why?
I love Magnus Blackwell. He is so much fun to write and blending his attitude from the past with present day life is an entertaining. He is just such a vivid character.
Most writers were readers as children. What was your favorite book in grade school?
The Trumpeter Swan EB White.
What are your plans for future projects?
There will be another book in the Magnus Blackwell Series, Torn, coming in fall 2019.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Alexandrea Weis grew up in the motion picture industry and began writing at the age of eight. After finishing her Ph.D. in Nursing, Alexandrea decided to pick up the pen again. She has published a number of award-winning novels, and won countless national awards for fiction.
