HACKLEBURG, Alabama -- Vicki McKee, a veteran paramedic, died April 27, 2011, when a tornado struck her manufactured home in Hackleburg. McKee, a native of Texas, was 47.

McKee and her niece, Tina Donias, 37, both were killed when the EF5 tornado destroyed the home, the TimesDaily newspaper reports. They were among 24 people killed in Marion County that day. McKee and Donias ended up in a field nearly 200 yards behind the home and McKee's 3 dogs, which she loved, were found dead by her side, said Sherri Crowder, who worked with McKee for 12 years at Northstar Paramedic Services in Franklin County.
