BERRY, Alabama -- Sylvia Spruell, 69, was killed by a tornado April 27, 2011, in her Berry home, along with her husband, Leon Spruell.

Sylvia Spruell's body was found about noon April 28, between a quarter and a half mile from her home, in a wooded area about 120 yards from the body of her husband. Relatives said the 2 had no warning because earlier storms had knocked out their power.

Sylvia Spruell worked as a controller for the Brice Building Co. for 30 years. A joint funeral was held for her and her husband of 49 years, Leon Spruell. They are survived by a daughter, 3 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
