Vernon Spencer Motes died in the basement of Mamre Baptist Church during the April 27 storms. He was 33.
Known to his friends as Spencer, Motes put up the drywall for a new building at the Mamre church a couple of years ago. He died in the old church, where others had gathered in the basement as shelter from the tornado. He had one daughter.
