Play Forever [149]

Room 231

Event Type: Education and Research
Playgrounds are no longer just for kids. New playground designs are emerging as communities look for ways to provide active living for the multigenerational family. Forty-nine million people in the United States live in multigenerational households, double what it was in 1980, and that number continues to grow. Once considered a haven only for children, parks and playgrounds have become fitness zones where older adults can practice and improve their balance, strength and coordination. Planning a multigenerational play space requires serious consideration of all ages and abilities. This education session focuses on the design of multigenerational play spaces and provides examples from around the world.
