A YouTube video of two Transportation Security Administration agents patting down two young children is stirring controversy.
A father travelling with his two children says he was selected for a security check last Friday, and then his two-year-old son, and six-year-old daughter were both patted down.
The video shows the TSA agents performing the screening procedure on the young children while the father asked if the pat downs were necessary. The officer replied saying it was because his children came into contact with him.
The unknown father, who posted the video onto YouTube, wrote in the description of the video that his wife was also checked. However, it was done in a ‘rude’ manner.
As the one TSA officer attempts to make the pat-down more comfortable with the daughter by smiling and talking to her, the son looks nervous as the officer runs his hands up-and-down his legs.
According to the TSA’s website, it has “modified screening procedures for children 12 and under that reduces the likelihood of a pat-down.”
In 2011, a video of a six-year-old girl at a New Orleans airport went viral. It shows the young girl undergoing the same screening procedure as these two young children. The video surfaced the same year the TSA changed the rules on pat-downs for children under the age of 12.
