Flanders News: Crafts and Flea Market at the Big Duck

BARBARAELLEN KOCH PHOTOBig Duck 80th birthday party.

Hello, friends and neighbors. I’m glad to see we’ve all made it through the Easter and Passover holidays in one piece. It’s now time to get into spring shape-up mode as we may have added on a few more ounces or pounds.

I’ve noticed a lot more people walking, jogging and bicycling. If you’re one of them, please take caution on the roadways. If you wear a headset, turn the volume low enough that you’re aware of your surroundings. If you’re driving, please be extra careful and watch for pedestrians and children who are playing outside. And please put your cellphone down!

A sure sign that spring is here is the annual Craft Fair and Flea Market being held at the Big Duck Ranch on Saturday, May 17 (rain date: Sunday, May 18). Vendors are needed. If you’re interested in setting up a booth, visit the Friends of the Big Duck’s Facebook page or go to bigduck.org for more information. This is always a fun event. It’s held at one of the most beautiful places in Flanders and the view of the bay is just spectacular. Stop down anytime and visit our landmark and make sure you check out the craft fair.

Belated happy birthday to Deandre King, who celebrated April 17, from your mom. She hopes you had a wonderful day.

Happy birthday to my good friend Linda Wallace, a teacher at Phillips Avenue Elementary, and my friend Jeannette Edge, who both celebrate on April 24; Fran Iaccone on the 30th; Sandy Fioto on May 1; Lisa Hubbard on the 2nd; and my cousin John Bogdan on the 4th. John lives in Maryland now but I’m certain he’ll hear about this shout-out. I hope everyone has a great day, doing whatever it is that makes them happy. Celebrate and enjoy!

My good friend Susan Tocci-Dispenziere and her family are honoring their sister Barbara Tocci’s memory by initiating a “Random Act of Kindness” drive. Barbara Tocci was the kindest and one of the most giving people I have ever had the honor of calling a friend (besides her entire family, that is). To carry on Barbara’s legacy of doing good deeds, her family has created cards that are being handed out to others who have also done good deeds. If you receive one of these cards in your mailbox or on your windshield, know that you’ve touched someone else’s life in some way. It may not come from the person you helped. You might have received it from someone who’s witnessed your good deed. Either way, hold onto that card and then pass it along to someone else who’s done a good deed. Pay it forward! One person can’t change the world but each of us can do our part.

Well, that’s all for this week. I hope everyone has a great weekend. If you have any news you’d like to share please call or email me. Take care.
