Sheriff: Deputy arrested for drugs will be fired

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith says deputy William Graham will be fired after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested him on drug charges.

Graham, 51, was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of Cocaine, one count of Possession of Marijuana, one count of Possession of Drug Related Objects, and one count of Violation of Oath by Public Officer. He was arrested in Americus.

According to a report, the GBI office in Americus was requested by the Sumter County Sheriff's Department to conduct the investigation after controlled substances were discovered in Graham's bedroom at his residence.

Sheriff Smith says his office requested the GBI investigate Graham after the Sheriff's Office served a search warrant two weeks ago during an investigation of Graham's son Brendon Graham.

Brendon was arrested on false imprisonment and simple battery and possession of firearm or knife during commission of a crime. He was released from jail on bond after his arrest on April 11th.

William Graham has been employed as a deputy with Sumter County since 2005.
