TORONTO – A mother in Texas reportedly bit off the ear of a dog after the animal attacked her toddler.
“She’s doing great,” said Chelsi Camp of her daughter in an interview with KHOU 11 News.
Camp said she was dog sitting a friend’s pit bull in March when the animal came up to her two-year-old Mackenzi Plass.
“When he smelled her, that’s when you saw it flip because I think he smelled my dog on her,” said Camp.
Camp said she fought back by biting the dog’s ear when he attacked the little girl and that during her struggle, she managed to call 911.
An officer who showed up at the scene shot the pit bull but did not kill it. The dog was later euthanized.
“I only know to fight… so how else do you get somebody to stop?” she said. “I mean I would do the same thing with a human being.”
Camp said she comes from a family of dog lovers and still loves them. Camp said Plass required facial surgery and has scars on her face. One month later, her mother says her daughter has nearly made a full recovery.
“I can actually hold her again,” Camp said. “She’s a strong little girl and a fighter. She’s meant to be here.”
